Becoming Human Chapter 4 The Path To Freedom • Vanier retells the story of Lazarus, the hungry beggar. He reminds the reader of how that story, which applied to the previous chapter (III From Exclusion to Inclusion: A Path of Healing), can be continued in this following chapter (IV The Path to Freedom). It is important to respect their differences as this helps to build better communities and helps everyone live more peacefully. Also if you are accepting of the differences in people they in turn are more likely to act the same and respect the differences in others. Many people try to find similarities in others and tend to not interact with people when they don’t find any similarities but if everyone respected peoples differences they would be able to build better relationships with people they wouldn’t usually think about building relationships…

We became good friends during the 5th and 6th grade when we were both bullied by the same person claiming to be our friend. She would emotionally blackmail us, manipulating our emotions and perception. During the 6th grade, she took advantage of our fear and turned us against each other. Telling us that the other person was lying or that the other person was going to get us in trouble or expelled. We eventually made up after a week upon realizing that it was her that was lying. To deal…

I realized these people I would consider friends, were not really my friends. We started to grow apart because I got busy with my job and they would go out and have those long crazy nights without me. Change is inevitable and I feel like the distance that was being created between us was also not. I hope perhaps, later on this senior year, we’ll find our way back to each other.…
