Percy Jackson
Outsider to Leader Imagine if you were half god in a human world. In The book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, it tells the story of a ADHD boy as he begins to learn he is a “Demigod”. Percy Jackson is the main protagonist, he is a Greek demigod, and a son of Poseidon, god of the seas, and Sally Jackson. Percy was average in athletics but later from his training, becomes very fit, muscular, and wiser. At the beginning of the book Percy was perceived as a “troubled kid” but throughout the book he becomes brave and a spirited leader.
Percy is used to being the outsider, the loner, and the dummy. He describes himself as "a troubled kid" (9).Percy has never been "normal" in his life, he has attended six different schools in six years. He has knack for getting kicked out of school. It's not his fault, though; trouble seems to find him wherever he goes. He's a trouble magnet, no matter how hard he tries to keep cool and make himself invisible. For example, his school trip to the New York museum: “I was trying to listen to what [Mr. Brunner] had to say, because it was kind of interesting, but everybody around me was talking, and every time I told them to shut up, the other teacher chaperone, Mrs. Dodds, would give me the evil eye. (31)” He even gets in trouble for trying to pay attention. He is a “troubled kid” but throughout the story he hast to become brave for the people he loves.

Percy is brave and is willing to risk his life to save friends, family, strangers, and sometimes even enemies. Many people tell him he is brave such as friends, family, strangers, and even gods and goddesses. For example, Percy agrees to go on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt even though Percy just got to Camp Half Blood. This showed that Percy wasn’t afraid to go and save his father and fight monsters to do so. In addition, while Percy went to consult the oracle, “A green mist poured from the mummy’s mouth, coiling over the floor in thick tendrils,

Percy is not just like Perseus because their names sound alike. They are alike in other ways as well. Like Perseus, Percy was saved because he had a god watching over him. In “ The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” it says, “ But Perseus was saved from his folly. Two great gods were watching over him.”(Hamilton 145). This same thing happened to Percy when he was battling Anabeth. She had beaten him up pretty badly and Percy had lay there…

We are introduced to Perseus “Percy” Jackson, a seemingly boring kid, with dyslexia and troubles making friends. An argument could be made that the first call was in the museum when he was attacked by the Fury, telling him to confess. Not a literal call, but rather a sign by fate that something is happening, the first touch of Percy with the world of the gods. The literal call to adventure of the story is at a rather late part, Percy was already part of Camp Half-blood, and his father, Poseidon, had already claimed him. I mean, the title of the chapter is literally “I Am Offered a Quest”. Not really much to explain there.…

In the story, Percy starts out to be a troubled kid to humans but actually, acts that way because he’s half-blood. For example, Percy has dyslexia because it's mine is hardwired to ancient Greek instead of English, and his ADHD so he can be impulsive during a battle to stay alive and his senses too. This confirms his mental illnesses were to keep him alive as a half-blood. As the story progresses, Percy is welcomed into Camp Half-Blood knowing who he really is now,but found out what other people think of him.For instance when Chiron tells Percy about the big feud with his dad and Zeus about the missing lightning bolt that was taken from Zeus on page…

the theme of percy Jackson is supernatural or non-human characters because of the weird characters. The theme of the Cronus Myth is A Quest or completion of a task because multiple times a character in the Myth completed a task to achieve a certain goal.Myths still matter because it is apart of many different cultures around the world.Greek myths matter because they influence people to write or creatively.I believe Rick Riordan chosen to include the Myth in the novel because cronus was talking to Percy through his dreams. Percy is the son of Poseidon, so maybe Poseidon and Kronos have a…

Percy Jackson is the main protagonist of the last Olympian. Percy isn’t greed at because he turned down god hood. “Oh, not you although I suppose I should wonder turning down immorality” (Riordan, 355) after defeating Kronos he was given a offer to be a god. He is also funny “With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later”. Making funny remark and one liner makes him a funny character in general, this funny one liner was said after he obtained the curse of Achilles and they were outside the underworld. Percy is also caring for his friends and he would do anything to protect them. "You're cute when you get worried; your eyebrows get all scrunched together."(Riordan, 199) this was after Percy’s friend Annabeth was fatally…

In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…

Meeting a monster is one way how Percy is a hero. Percy is in the museum with Mrs.Dodds and she starts saying strange things to Percy. Suddenly, she shifts into a monster. “She wasn’t human. She was a shriveled hag with bat wings and claws and a mouth full of yellow fangs, and she was about to slice me to ribbons.” (Riordan 12) This supports Percy meeting a monster because the quote says Mrs.Dodds was not human. Then, the quote describes Mrs.Dodds with things monsters have like bat wings and yellow…

The main character focus in The Iliad is Achilles. Achilles is the son of Thetis, an immortal sea-nymph, and Peleus, the king of the Myrmidons. Because he was the son of Thetis, he was a demigod, which meant that he had one parent who was a God and another parent who was human. Demigods were much stronger than regular humans but did not have as much power as a God. Achilles was the greatest warrior in the Greek army, but that did not make him a hero. Achilles had many character flaws. He was a cry-baby. Whenever something did not go his way, he would cry to his mother about it like she could fix all of his problems. Sometimes she…

    Odysseus as an Epic Hero

What is a hero you may ask? Merriam-Webster states that a hero is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability; an illustrious warrior; a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities; one who shows great courage; the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work; the central figure in an event, period, or movement. I could support Merriam and say that Odysseus fits many of these descriptions and characteristics. In the words of Margalit Finkelberg:…
