Pep Protests
Ugh… the pep rally. A place where stupid 8th grade boys come to see 8th grade girls shake their stuff. I hate it, but my mom always forces me to come. “Honey, it’s good for you to build school spirit.” “Oh Bree Bear, just go and have fun with your friends.” I just went to make her happy, but honestly sometimes I have a bit of fun. Okay, maybe sometimes I have a lot of fun. But you know what, that’s not the point. This time the cheerleaders were doing a new cheer. Instead of saying To the San to the Diego to the Bears, (Our school is San Diego middle, and our mascot is the bears,) they were saying,” To the D, to the A, to the D, since it was Father’s Day tomorrow. I had completely forgotten about that, because, well, I don’t have a dad. I mean, I obviously have to have a dad, …show more content…
Then, I decided on something. I was old enough, I was ready, I needed to know who my dad was, if he was alive, or worst case scenario if he was dead. I was leaving the pep rally now. I was almost out of the school when I realized I didn't have a car to drive myself home, and my mom was picking me up at 8:00. I looked at my watch and looked at the time. It was only 5:00. Ugh! Then, I grabbed my phone. I knew what to do. I grabbed my phone and dialed a number I knew by heart. It was the number of my cousin, Dean. We had a crush on each other when we I was 5 and he was 8. However, when our parents told us that cousins weren't allowed to ever marry or have crushes on each other that crushed both our dreams. We said that the rules could be broken, but then a few years later our parents had a talk with us that said if cousins ever tried to have kids something goes wrong… blah, blah, blah. Then we quickly decided to just be friends. He’s a junior in High School, and most importantly he has a car. We have always been super close and we were BCF. (Best cousin’s forever.) I called him. Here’s how the conversation

    Rick Reilly Summary

Cheerleaders are athletes too. They practice just as much as everyone else, sometimes even more. They get hurt just like everyone else, but only more severely. In “Sis! Boom! Bah! Humbug!” Rick Reilly attempts to get people of his side of cheerleading as a sport or in his mind not a sport. He does not want girls cheering on the other athletes at sporting events when they could be in the event instead. Rick Reilly conveys his message through a sandwich of logos, pathos, logos statements; this was very effective in my eyes even if at points he turned the majority of readers away with sarcastic anecdotes, but he manages to bring most back through his use of assertions.…

Now if you’ll excuse me, i’m taking your man, and later the title of ‘cheer captain’” I grabbed Isaac's hand and turned away from her walking to the tops of the bleachers. “You’re a fiery little thing aren't you?” He laughed and laid his arm around my shoulders. Asriel looked up at us and stared, as I smiled and grabbed his hand making sure she could see. “You know, she's always jealous. Even when no one does anything wrong. It drives me insane.” he frowned a bit and i felt my heart drop. “You should change that Isaac, you’re handsome, so smart, athletic and funny. You deserve so much more. She’s a witch, to you and everyone else.” I turned to look at him and he was already staring at me. “I- i’m sorry if i offended you Isac, it’s ju-” He cut…

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

Should the riots by the peasants of the early modern era resemble a revolutionary movement to reorder society? During the early modern era in Europe, nobles treated the peasants with little to no respect and thought that the peasants would obliged to whatever they commanded. Peasants began to realize that they needed to stand up against the nobles and government in order to change their role. Peasant movements became revolutionary by going through with the idea of taking a stand and doing everything in their power to change their societal role. Poor working conditions and the government ordering troops to murder peasants caused the peasants to revolt against their government. Leaders of the riots, such as George Vend and Stepan Razin,…

In an american high school, students assemble a pep rally, before a rival game. My first pep rally was held for the football team who played against St. Mark’s that night. After lunch all 9th through 12th graders herded into the gym for the pow wow. I settled restlessly into my cold metal seat, only to jump back up as the cheerleaders burst through the door. I was enthralled by their amazing rubber band choreography and energized by the upbeat top 20 music they danced to. After their performance, multiple spoofs were performed by seniors. These tricks and activities did not faze the animation of the crowd. Near the end we sang our school cheer. I was unfamiliar with it, but my various shouts were absorbed by everyone else's cheering. The feel of victory was so clear that everyone transitioned to fistbumping in the air. I had to focus on not becoming roadkill, while bounding along with the mass. This “natural” high school practice is part of our american culture and expresses our competitiveness and love for the school.…

You could feel the tension in the car. I soon realized how similar we are and how he had already gone through what I’m going through as a teenager. We talked about life and how we would help my mom if Sadie did happen to die. Sadie was my mom’s first dog so we knew this would hit her hard. When we arrived at the vet and Sadie needed a blood transfusion which is risky but my mom would try anything to save her. Sad about Sadie, my mom was anxious to see what would happen. While Sadie was undergoing the blood transfusion my mom told my brother and I to get the other dogs so they could say goodbye to Sadie just in case. Again, we were in the car and started talking. It was crazy because those two car rides made my brother and I closer than we had ever been before. My brother gave me advice on my friends, boys, and my parents. When we got back to the vet we were just in time, Sadie had just gotten out of surgery. Our vet has done it once again. Sadie was going to be alright, but we would have to keep a close eye on her for a…

As a cheerleader, I took part in a high energy and enthusiasm activity, yet I craved more. “More” just so happened to be flag football. The summer before I entered the first grade I asked my parents if I could make the transition. My request was met with emotions including concern, intrigue, but most of all, support. My parents were not going to dissuade me from participating in any hobby, especially one I seemed so interested in pursuing. I showed up to the first practice with my curly, blonde hair pulled back in a tight ponytail. I was enthusiastic to learn and participate in the sport over which my whole family went ballistic each Sunday night in the dead of winter. Upon my much awaited arrival, the coach's wife asked what number I wanted to have on the back of my extra-small jersey. I thought ‘one’ was the…

The entire class was yelling in excitement. It felt like I was in a loud beehive, people were just buzzing away talking about “Senior Skip Day.” This is the day where senior students plan their own wild celebration of the last days in high school. All seniors have to celebrate this day altogether as a class during school hours. Everyone was aware of this occasion and it was sort of a privilege seniors had.…

We were so happy, I started explaining to her where we were, how the place looked like and that there was a big garbage can, as I explain tears dripped from my eyes. We hugged each other, cried, and stayed put right next to the garbage can. We finally saw my mother’s silver BMW car. We slowly walked towards the car, making sure that it was my mother or one of our parents are in there. I then saw my mother did something with her hand, I know what that meant to hurry up, I told my little cousins to hurry up and get in the car, we ran as fast as we could towards the car and got in. Since then my little cousins and I learned a very big and important lesson that we will never forget, it to your pacings with your family, close and to tell them that you need a break if you are losing your…

The day has finally come; it’s the last day of cheer. After days of constant cheering, dancing and stunting, it was the day either for my dreams to be crushed or for them the come true. I couldn’t decide what to wear, what to expect, whether to wear a bow or not. My life is a hot mess at the moment. I am freaking out. I’m giving my self a pep talk trying to get my life together. Then all of a sudden I thought, “What am I talking about I am not confident in myself.” That is big problem because the whole point of being a cheerleader you need to confident and positive. “What did I get myself into?” “Why did I even tryout?” “None of the girls are going to accept me on the team.” Then I looked at the time. I had thirty minutes till I had to be there. I had nothing to wear, and I haven’t done my hair.…

    Cheer Captain Essay

There are many different opinions out there about cheerleaders, many good, and some bad. Some people think of them as the girls standing by the football field, but I think of cheerleading as a symbol of all the spirit that we can share, and a token of appreciation toward the team that’s being cheered on. Cheerleading is such a vital part to many sections of the school. If I, Casey Harvel, were chosen to be a captain for the Michigan City High School squad, not only would I make sure that any negative opinions were squashed, but the great qualities the squad holds, are emphasized and constantly challenged.…

My mother thankfully had a backup plan. “We will stay with my cousins they don’t live too far from here”. When we pulled up to this little home, we were greeted outside with big hugs and kisses. I had never met these people, but they had acted as they knew me for all my life, I had never felt more welcomed. As we walked inside, I noticed…
