Pediatric OCD Treatment Study
I started my search for my two peer reviewed articles by going to the database page of the library. I then clicked on the select databases option and went with Academic Search Complete, PsychINFO, and CINAHAL Complete. I typed in my keyword search that was suggested to me on assignment 4, and received ninety- six results. It was a bit difficult trying to find two articles to look at because most of them required an interlibrary loan or they were not scholarly reviewed articles. However I eventually found two refereed articles with PDFs that related to my research question in some way.
My First Article, The rationale and some features of the Nordic long-term OCD treatment study (NordLots) in childhood and adolescence I was quite excited to

Like any scholarly article it has an abstract, section of the treatments tested and the conclusion. Psychotherapy which involves the implementation of exposure therapy techniques, and the Pharmacological treatment section would be the areas of the article that I would pull out information for my research question. It would still be helpful to look into the comorbidity section of the article. From the conclusion I gathered that the treatments reduced the symptoms of OCD in children, but if not recognized early they will follow the child into …show more content…
The information is still fairly current even though a few of the sources used to write the articles are from the 1970’s. As for authority, the authors’ credentials are listed at the top of the page. The main author, Kirstyn Marie Kameg, Has her doctorate in nursing and is a nursing professor at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania. The other author of the article, Janene Luther Szpak, also has her doctorate in nursing. Email links are provided for both authors in order to contact them about the information in the article thus enforcing the authority they have to write about OCD. The information in the article is supported by a lengthy list of references. I also verified that is was refereed by looking on Ulrich’s web and searching the journal the article came from. The purpose of this article was to inform psychiatric nurses on the progress that has been made in pediatric OCD. Given the fact that the article comes from a peer reviewed journal, I doubt that it would be published if it was biased or if the authors had any other purpose other than to

OCD can start at any time from preschool age to adulthood. One third to one half of adults with OCD report that it started during childhood. Unfortunately, OCD often goes unrecognized. On average, people with OCD see three to four doctors and spend over 9 years seeking treatment before they receive a correct diagnosis. Studies have also found that it takes an average of 17 years from the time OCD begins for people to obtain appropriate treatment. OCD tends to be under diagnosed and under treated for a number of reasons. People with the disorder may be secretive about their symptoms or lack insight about their illness. Many healthcare providers are not familiar with the symptoms or are not trained in providing the appropriate treatments. Some people may not have access to treatment resources. This is unfortunate since earlier diagnoses and proper treatment, including finding the right medications, can help people avoid the suffering associated with OCD the suffering associated with OCD and lessen the risk of developing other problems, such as depression or marital and work problems.…

The person I have chosen to use for this research assignment is a gentleman I will refer to as Randall. He is a 31 year old man with what has been diagnosed as both a General Anxiety Disorder and agoraphobia. Randall’s condition is one that stems from a moment of extreme anxiety in his early twenties, and has worsened over the last decade into the agoraphobic behaviors of having a generalized discomfort or inability to leave the house. In short, Randall cannot be somewhere that does not come with direct access to a restroom facility. He must have a line of sight or awareness of where the closest bathroom is at all times outside his home. These incidents of fear began after a traumatic incident that Randall experienced as a musician nearly ten…
