PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE Introduction
As the saying goes great education begins at home. In addition, according to Henderson, Mapp, Patrikakou, Weisberg, Redding, and Walberg, they indicated that there are positive academic outcomes stemming from parental involvement with benefits beginning in early childhood, throughout adolescence and beyond. Shaver and Walls are also in support, pointing out that the connection between parents and school achievement is real.
As cited by Kendra Cherry, developmental psychologists have long been interested in how parents impact child development. One of the most influential approaches to this area is the study of what has been called “parenting style”. This is the main aspect that this study is concern with because this study is trying to find out the impact of parenting style in terms of academic performance of senior nursing students of Saint Paul University Dumaguete in the School Year 2012-2013. This study is grounded with the Theory of Parenting Style formulated by Diana Baumrind.
In the making of this research paper, despite of the circumstances that the researcher have encountered , they were able to come up with this research paper for the evaluation of the effectiveness of parenting styles in academic performances and for the reinforcement of modifications in relation to parenting style. Aside from that, this study also helps us in identifying the academic profile and determining the dominant parenting style as perceived by the 4th year nursing students of Saint Paul University Dumaguete.
