Apple SWOT Analysis: Organizational Planning
Apple is one of the leaders worldwide in the electronic world, especially in the tablet and cell phone industries. That being said, two strategic goals for them are to be a global leader in the cell phone market and to be a global leader in the tablet market. In order to achieve such strategic goals, two organizational goals are to design and release a new and enhanced version of the iPhone and to design and release a new and enhanced version of its tablet, the iPad.
The overall goals of being leaders in the cell phone and tablet markets are directly driven by the sales and marketing of these two items in the real world. There are many factors that play into the consumer making the decision on which brand of cell phone or tablet to purchase. Keep in mind, that most individuals have cell phones these days so the choice of whether to buy one or not is almost non-existent. The choice simply becomes which phone do I buy. While not as many people have tablets as they are seen as more of a luxury, those who do decide to purchase also have to look at the available options and make a decision. One factor that has kept Apple as one of the main choices for these consumers is the fact that their technology and the capabilities of their devices is usually at the top of the food chain. They are not always the most advanced and have the most capabilities, but they are usually somewhere near the top.
These reasons are proof that it is very important to make sure that they regularly release new version of both the iPad and the iPhone. Consumers tend to want to have the newest, coolest and most capable device that money can buy. With subsidies and discounts to the purchase price of the iPhones for singing contracts, these stores are usually very busy. Having regular releases of new and enhanced products is a very good goal and as long as

Apple IPhone is considered apples most innovate and best selling product according to “the secret to Apple’s success” article they raised a point about Apple’s marketing strategy, “Making markets vs. addressing markets – Some claim that Apple doesn’t ask people what they need but gives them products they decide they want.” In a competitive industry such as the mobile device industry, no consumer would purchase a cellphone unless they perceive its worth as valuable. No body necessarily needs an apple iPhone they have many options however, they want the phone because they value the product. Another marketing strategy worth noting is how Apple markets their products. The current market that the Apple iPad is competing in also includes other operating system platforms; the operating system Apple uses on their iPad tablet device is the iOS operating system. Android is the main competing operating system and can be run on various devices and is not specific to one, which is the case with the iPad. The iPad operating system is exclusive to operating on only Apple devices, whereas Android can be run on Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Google’s Nexus device, and other devices. By launching IPAD, in January 2010, and releasing it into the market in April, Apple introduced a potential new product category in computers which is likely to change the way consumers interact with their devices. IPAD was able to meet a changing consumer need which saw them preferring to ‘swipe a finger across a touch screen’ instead of using a keyboard. More than 15 million units were sold in the first year alone. In a move which surprised many market watchers, Apple launched IPAD2, in March 2011, slightly more than a year after the first IPAD was released onto the market. Surprisingly!, because many marketers would have thought that IPAD1 had not yet gone through its full product life cycle. However, this move by Apple is in response to the changing competitive environment which has seen growth in the interest of tablet computers from competitors. Analysts predict the computer tablet market to treble in size in 2012. By launching IPAD2, Apple has left competitors playing ‘catch up’ in a growing segment with consumers hungry for new products. There are a dozen or more competitors with rival tablets to IPAD2 likely to be launched in 2011 from competitors like Microsoft and Toshiba.…

The market for smartphones is a very young one, currently in its maturing phase. Direct competitors of Apple, Inc. include Google, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard Company, BlackBerry Limited, and Microsoft (Yahoo Finance, 2015). There are a large number of firms in the smartphone industry, but not too large. Furthermore, each company sells the same quintessential product, but each is differentiated – Apple sells its iPhone with special retina screens, Samsung sells with a larger screen, etc. There are no major barriers to entry to the market, so firms that are not profitable in the smartphone business can easily leave and vice versa (McConnell et al, 2009). All of these facts point to the fact that the market structure is a monopolistic competitive environment.…

Despite the effects of ongoing poor economic conditions in the U.S., Apple Inc. celebrated record revenues and sales of computers. The company’s newly released iPad tablet computer and iPhone smartphone models helped push Apple to the #2 U.S. market share ranking for smartphones (trailing #1 Samsung, running Google’s Android OS.) However, Google’s expansion of the Android operating system had allowed competitors such as HTC, LG, Nokia, and Samsung to introduce smartphones, along with a new Windows Mobile operating system that copied many features of the iPhone. Google was also a growing threat to Apple in the tablet market, since many computer manufacturers were developing new tablet computers similar to the iPad that would run the Android operating system; increasing the stakes in the battle for the mobile device market that continues today (Thompson, A., Peteraf, M., Gamble, J., & Strickland, A. (2011).…
