When I think about an organization I think of a company that provides a service that people cannot live without. The first thing that comes to my mind is Publix. It provides a very valuable service that we cannot live without, it is easy to describe in terms of what it does and it has plenty of logistics that can be discussed. In this paper I will describe the organization, what it does, the customers it serves and its size. I will also research the organization’s mission statement and discuss the role HR (Human Resource) plays in fostering the organization’s mission statement. Assess the common HR challenges facing this organization and I will then recommend an HR strategy that can be implemented to overcome the challenges assessed. Finally, I will determine how effective my recommendations will be in making the organization more competitive. Publix is a privately held company that operates stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee and was founded by George W. Jenkins in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida. Publix today has grown into a Fortune 500 company with more than 1,000 stores and is one of the fastest growing employee-owned companies in the United States. According to Publix, they are known for their philosophy of pleasing the customer with the Publix guarantee of never knowingly disappointing their customers. Publix proudly serves diverse customers and communities. Giving and investing in the community is a major part of the company 's culture. Publix employs over 140,000 people at its retail locations, cooking schools, corporate offices, eight grocery distribution centers and nine Publix brand manufacturing facilities. The manufacturing facilities produce dairy, deli, bakery and other food products. Publix stands as one of the largest US regional grocery
