1. A food contains 4 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbohydrates and 5 grams of protein per serving. How many kilocalories? Show your work. 4 grams of fat x9= 36 kcalories 40 grams of carbohydrates x4= 160 kcalories 5 grams of protein x4= 20 kcalories 36+160+20= 216 kilocalories
2. What percentage of kilocalories from protein in 1.5 servings of the above food? 5*1.5= 7.5 * 4= 30/216= 13.9%
3. A 50 year old patient with congestive heart failure who must limit his sodium intake asks you how many milligrams of sodium are in 1 serving of frozen pizza. You know it is 0.7 grams of sodium. How many milligrams is this? Would you recommend this product to this individual? How could this pizza be made lower in sodium?
0.7* 1,000= 700 milligrams of sodium
Since he does have to watch how much sodium he consumes I would recommend this product only if it is going to be eaten for a meal and he is only going to eat one serving. This pizza could be made lower in sodium by reducing the amount of toppings in the pizza, I would suggest to ick and choose the type of toppings that go on the pizza. Ground beef is a good choice as a meat because it is low on sodium.
