'Nothing Gold Can Stay Or Last Forever Just Like Gold'
The author reveals the message of the poem when he says "Nothing gold can stay because it is saying that nothing can stay or last forever just like gold"

When my cousin from California came to Michigan for a party she came to my house on her last night in Michigan. She came over to watch a movie with us and sleepover. While watching the movie I sat next to her. After the movie we went upstairs and all slept in one bed. We were talking and my mom and dad told us either we sleep or quiet down. After that we took out her phone and started to text in her phone and pass it around so we could all read it.

“Nothing Gold Can Stay” means that nothing perfect can stay. In life, the best things are the ones that don’t last forever. The most beautiful things in life are the things that have the shortest life. In the poem, it says "Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold”, this means that the most beautiful color of nature is gold, but it also is the hardest color to last. In the book when Johnny refers to “Nothing Gold Can Stay” he is telling Ponyboy to stay with all that innocence that they had in their childhood. When the Greasers were small, they were innocent, but when they grew to adults, they became less innocent, violent, mean, rule breakers, etc… So what Johnny wants is that Ponyboy doesn’t become violent, mean, rule breaker,…

In the poem, the meaning of the story could go both ways; the man could be hard-working or extremely lazy. However, with the support of key terms, metaphors, and extracting of the true meaning of, “I have wasted my life,” it is revealed that the character has worked hard his whole life. The main character appreciates the small things in life. He notices the bronze butterfly, over his head, asleep on the black tree trunk. In addition, the cowbells in the distance can be heard. This demonstrates that he now appreciates the small things in life. The bronze butterfly…

To me, the poem appears to be comparing our youthful years as being as valuable as gold. We are to enjoy our time when we are young for it is the "…hardest hue to hold…" on to. It is also saying that our childhood years are very short and feels like "…but only so an hour…" As we grow older, our garden of "…Eden sank to grief…" The beginning of our life will quickly end as "…dawn goes down to day…" So in the end "…nothing gold can stay…" which refers to the end of our innocence. (All quotes taken from…

The proverb in “All that glitters is gold” contradicts Shakespeare’s quote “All that glitters is not gold”. That version means that not everything that looks valuable turns out to be so. This conveys the opposite, that everything that looks valuable, is valuable; maybe suggesting that every dream is worth pursuing.…

As Johnny had said to Ponyboy “stay gold” which refers to when Ponyboy recites the poem “ Nothing gold can stay” to Johnny in the church. The qualities that I feel allow me to stay gold were passed down to me at a young age. The strength and values being passed down from generation to generation feel as though they have grown stronger with time. My golden qualities are that I’m honorable, I’m ethical, and a nurturer.…

This represents the lost in the poem and what people are subconsciously thinking everyday. Lines 1 and 2 epitomize this meaning because it says, "Even when I forget you I go on looking for you." This leads on to how life is symbolized in the poem as well. People go their whole lives not realizing they are lost and need time to themselves to become the person they have the potential to be. Some follow behind others and are just a copy of the person next to them, in effect they are not their own person and the things they do are not of their true choice. This symbolism is conveyed in the last two lines as it says, "What they say you who are not lost when I do not find you." In conclusion you are not truly living life if you are not living as yourself and as the…

She repeats the words gold and chain. I think that the reason is that, if we value gold more that things like love and friendship than we could become prisoners to that thing, or maybe lose what really counts. During the poem it is describing things that we don’t really value such as shells, feathers, and sea shaped stones. The poet expresses the danger something such as this. In this poem, I felt like a woman was thinking and imagining. The tone was curiosity.…

We were so happy, I started explaining to her where we were, how the place looked like and that there was a big garbage can, as I explain tears dripped from my eyes. We hugged each other, cried, and stayed put right next to the garbage can. We finally saw my mother’s silver BMW car. We slowly walked towards the car, making sure that it was my mother or one of our parents are in there. I then saw my mother did something with her hand, I know what that meant to hurry up, I told my little cousins to hurry up and get in the car, we ran as fast as we could towards the car and got in. Since then my little cousins and I learned a very big and important lesson that we will never forget, it to your pacings with your family, close and to tell them that you need a break if you are losing your…

We went to one of the only grocery stores in town called Family Dollar to rent a Redbox movie and get supplies for making s’mores. Once we got everything we needed we drove to the local school to pick up Samantha’s little sister. We drove down a long twisting neighborhood to get to the school. Once we got there Samantha told me about how the middle school and high school are connected as one building and the parking lots are extremely small fitting maybe 50 cars. The high schools by my house have enough parking for a small country. We picked her up by the softball field and she told us about how she didn’t even have to pay to get into the softball game because she came from another sporting event. So, their mom called the principal also known as their cousin to make sure this was actually allowed and she…

The poem begins with the description of the Lunulae as soon as the visitor walks in where they comment on the gold on the Lunulae and that it was so thin only an old woman would notice it, creating imagery in our mind about how fine and delicate the Lunulae is and therefore, adding to the speakers intrigue towards the object. This description continues in the second stanza where she compares the gold to crescent moons that came out of the “sunken district of the dark”. This comparison probably tells us how the Lunulae were found after the “archaeologists” dug it out of the ground. This gets the poet to start describing the ornaments and how the women of the Bronze Age “threw no barbaric shadows” which seems like a connection with the Bronze age and how it may have been a time of violence. The reference to “freeze” in stanza five and “winter” links to a seasonal recurrence where spring probably represents the young people and that winter symbolizes doom, old age and eventually: death. Contrasting to this description, the poet uses a lot of delicate and gentle sounds such as moon, women and mood to probably ease out the process, almost as if it was a cyclic movement.…

“The Gold Key” is a poem written by Anne Sexton. It has some influence of the Bluebeard fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers. The poem has several characters that seem to have read fairy tales in their childhood. There are four girls: Alice, Eleanor, Jane and Maryel; and there are three boys: Samuel, Kurt and Brian. The narrator asks the characters if they remember their childhood. It tries to give the message that even when we grow up, our childhood we should never forget. The narrator asks this with a series of rhetorical questions like: “Samuel, at twenty-two have you forgotten? Forgotten the ten P.M. dreams where the wicked king went up in smoke?” The last character that is introduced is a boy. The…

Eventually our relationship developed into a ‘go-to-party-cousin’ status in high school, bringing each other around to our stomping ground to meet boys and party like degenerates – and boy, did we have fun! All the while constantly looking over one another and truly having our best (and safest) interest at heart. Finally, we are at a stage now where those phases of our friendship are left in the past with the dusty roads of Hopkinsburg, and in turn have built the concrete foundation that we currently stand on. You, calling me telling me you met this wonderful man that you think someday you will marry, syphoning tears from me (while simultaneously making me laugh for poking fun at his name). Bringing beautiful Korie into this world, and being an amazing mother and role model to her. Me, calling you first when I find out about any new adventure in my life. You know, I never thought that I would be going to my baby cousin to advice on raising a baby girl, but now that it’s a consistent basis situation, I wouldn’t have it any other way. You are amazing.…
