No Sacred Space Analysis

I liked the piece “No Sacred Space” by Jared Aragon. I thought it was very creative. It started out as just the organ playing then the alto flute joined in. After that the viola joined in. I thought this was done smoothly. They blended in perfectly with each other. The music sounded really peaceful because of this blend. The alto flute solo was a nice addition. It allowed for the flute to stand out amongst the other instruments. It didn’t sound like it was done abruptly for no reason but for a purpose. The viola player tapping the viola with the bow to make a sound like blink blink blink was creative in my eyes. It was interesting to see a beautiful piece played with only three instruments. The song is so beautiful that it sounds like music you would hear in a fairy tale forests. I liked the piece “Soft Watches” by Ileana Perez-Valazquez. It was a creative and fun idea to make the piece based off the painting Salvador Dali’s famous painting “Persistence of Memories”. I like how it got louder and faster after a while like time was passing by. The viola being the first instrument to start playing was a good choice. The rhythm the piece was going at suited the story the piece was trying to tell. The fact this piece was done beautifully with only three instruments performing was amazing. “Soft Watches”
The goal was definitely reached. The going back and forth from slow to fast shows time passing by. You can tell that it is about her memories in Cuba. The idea of time is linear while memories aren’t linear is a good idea shown in this piece. This is shown through the inconsistent slow and fast pace. If there were sounds like the tik tok of a clock might make it better. It could show time passing by better. The fact that the clocks in the painting “Persistence of Memories” has different times links together well with the piece “Soft Watches” because they both show time
