Alena was floating on her tube in the calm Hawaiian water. It was Saturday her favorite day of the week. This wasn’t because there was no school it was because it was the day that she got her first dog, his name is Bear. Alena loves him with all her heart every square inch except for 2 one for her mom and one for her dad. As she was floating on her tube she was thinking about those autumn nights back in Maine when they would play tag and bond like a real family. They would do this every single night in spring and fall until one day her dad drown and was never seen again.
“Alena come for a swim” her cousin yelled up toward her tube. “Nah I’m good” she responded. As she started to drift off to sleep something shimmering caught her eye then….

Then I realized that I was the one that they were out to get. They wanted to get me so they had no one that could release my father. A tear suddenly ran down my cheek instead of falling it floated way up. Sabah realized that I was upset so she told me that she would give me a makeover to make me look like one of the people here. When she had finished I looked like a whole different person I had raven colored hair, freckles, and I was not anymore wearing a bathing suit I was wearing a blue top with white lace and black pants (something I would never wear.) But I thanked her and headed toward a smoothie hut. She begged me not to go but I refused. As I was walking away I heard that same scream then the cage shut. I hurried to follow the noise until I got completely lost all that was in front of me was darkly colored seaweed that seemed to go for miles and miles. All I remember after that is that some large dark creature came and said,”WHO ARE YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!”I was so startled I couldn’t speak so I fell just fell straight on the seaweed. He just grabbed my dead weight and pulled me across the ocean floor. When I woke up I was faced with someone who looked somewhat like a sea king. It was just then I realized that was King Teha! I saw a cage behind

“Graduation, the hush-hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations and diplomas.” You weren’t lying when you said that Maya Angelou. May 19th, 2013 I had dreamt of that day for almost four years. I know I can’t be the only person who feel this way. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. So many different emotions going through my mind all at once. Happiness, Sadness, I felt relieved because it was almost over but at the same time I felt anxious and overly excited to just leave and go far away. 389 seniors were going to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. Yet another Thanksgiving, and I was stuck in my uncle’s basement watching the Redskins face off the Dallas Cowboys. Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and various other famous athletes all grinned at me from their respective Wheaties boxes, seemingly mocking my pain. My uncle collected them and, for some reason, had decided the bright orange boxes would be a great decorative addition to the basement wall behind the television. I remember once, when I was younger, I was searching for a movie to watch and I accidentally brushed against a limited edition Michael Jordan box. The box began to teeter, and I immediately knew that I was doomed. All the boxes began to fall like dominos to the floor. My uncle, needless to say, was furious. Thus, it was seemingly fitting that the offended boxes, now realigned on the wall, would have the privilege to witness my torture by football.…

A moment when I as a writer felt an influence towards my ability to be literate was in my tenth grade English class, reading the novel Fahrenheit 451. Never before had I shown such appreciation and willingness to understand for a school assigned book, in truth my interest with school readings had been deteriorating due to the consistency of papers and assignments.. For years any school readings were easy to understand and majority held interesting tales, yet no piece of literature (even outside school) could manage to make me say “I’m buying this book to put on my shelf and read on my own.” Nothing brought “inspiration” or gave examples of “unique” to myself personally, only the basic sentence structures and dialogue for conversation. In short, I didn’t care how literate I was because I never saw anything to imprint on myself. The only novel I would like to own needs to impact both my mind and if successful my own writing. However, each passing page of Fahrenheit 451 managed to give me that inner meaning that I wanted my own writing to radiate.…

The day after Thanksgiving on November 23, 2012 the Davidson’s decided to have a “Thanksday Dinner” where everyone brought leftovers from the day before and we sat around the table and talked. Ashton brought his video camera to document the experience; so he set it on top of the fireplace mantle of the club house we rented. That day just happened to be my birthday so trying to avoid the subject I helped set up chairs and tables and arrange the food in a way that would save the most room. After every one arrived we lined up to get the food and chowed down on our food. It wasn’t really eventful so we moved on to my favorite; pumpkin pie. Ryan really likes whipped cream on his pie so he goes and gets the cream, and then BAM! Leighton (my granddaughter) jumps up so fast and climbs over the counter like a ninja to stop Ryan from getting the whipped cream. So we eat our pie and we went around the table saying what we are thankful for, we went through the usual with our family with items like: toilet paper, electricity, etc. When they finally cracked down we started over and it was way emotional for some people and everyone was crying. We decided to do a “Davidson cinnamon roll”, it’s where everyone holds hands and on one side they start rolling into the middle pulling people into the big swirl. We all toppled over eventually. After that we were all hyped up from the pie and we turned on some music from my kindle and started a conga line. When we finished our conga line we changed into our swim-suits so we could go sit in the hot tub and relax. Well, then somebody got the bright idea of jumping in the pool (with the heater off for winter) and run back to the hot tub. So they jump off and “SPLASH” they are in the freezing water! My granddaughter and I didn’t want to jump into the pool so we thought “hey, might as well ease our way into it right?” we got to the top of our rib cage and ran back to the hot tub. It was way too cold!! After that almost everyone changed back…

My brother just kept on spitting out "come on, Maggie. I know you can do this". I couldn't help but believe him, so yet again, I climbed the ladder. I arrived at the top of the boathouse, and I crept across the black gravel laid out on the roof of the building. It was burning on my feet, since the gravel had absorbed the heat from the sun. Finally, I edged myself to the step up that was the edge. It was metal, so now it was scorching on my feet; even worse than the gravel. I stood there and felt my stomach fill with butterflies. I heard my brother and Daniel acting like typical monkeys and both were taunting me like monkeys--(oops! I mean brothers) do. They yelled things like "don't chicken out this time". It was Samantha and Mara who were cheering me on. I gawked at the rippling water, tightened the straps on my black and yellow life jacket, and shut my eyes tight. I began to dream of hitting the water and as i began to float away, i heard voices in the background slowly chanting: One for the money….. (the pause was endless), two for the show…. (I clenched my fists), three to get ready… (oh, god)… and four to….…

During my senior year, I had to find a quote that would best describe me. A quote that would define me as an unique individual and not make me fit in with my other classmates. Something that would really stress the importance of a specific struggle in my life and one quote that stood out to me was ‘’If you were absent during my struggle, do not expect to present during my success.” This was said by African-American actor and comedian Will Smith in the movie The Pursuit of Happiness. What makes this quite significant to my life? How did it affect my life? These are the questions I ask myself.…

Last April, I went abroad in order to see the Beyoncé new concert in Paris; what I didn´t know is that I was about to experience the most stressful journey in my whole life. When the tickets came out on sale, five minutes where enough for the on-line page to sell them out completely worldwide, so I thought I wasn’t going to be able to see the show. Desperately I entered to a ticket re-selling site on the web and I bought two tickets for a very exorbitant price (four times the value of the official page price). Two months passed and I didn´t get the tickets that the web page was supposed to mail me. I spent at least a week trying to call the manager of the page but it was quite difficult, but a week before the date I planned to travel, they told me that they were going to deliver the tickets at the entrance of the concert. A week after that we went on a plane to Madrid and the stopover was so long that we had to spend the night over at the airport; I remember I slept on the ground because I was terribly exhausted. The next day, as soon as we got to Paris we went to the stadium where the concert was on, the next day. We went to the stadium´s ticket-office and told them our little inconvenient and the lady told us that the specific web page we used for buying the tickets was a scam, and that she wasn´t sure that they will appear the next day to deliver the tickets. The next day, we went to the stadium at 5 o´clock in the morning to make the line for the standing position at the concert, 200 people where there a week before us so they could be up front, we were totally resigned. But then somebody told us that if we had to pick up tickets we had a different entrance, so we made a new line at another gate in which we were first. Five hours late we found out that the concert organizers had a strike a few days before and there were a lot of tickets that weren´t delivered so they told us that in order to make up for that, we were going to enter before…
