Personal Narrative Essay

The illusion of invulnerability is one of the largest causes of teenage related arrests, injuries, and deaths. This was the day I realized I wasn’t untouchable. I do not remember what time the officers grabbed me that night, but I was on the dance floor at a nightclub known as the “Seven One Ocho” and all seemed to be perfect. I suspect perception has plenty to do with beliefs in life, and in this instance my ability to assess my environment accurately was extremely clouded. The next thing I can remember was being pressed to the ground by two police officers, while undergoing questioning and being told I was being placed into custody. The clear reason for this was my being a minor in possession of alcohol and obviously diminished in my faculties.

The drive to the detention center was melancholy at best, not knowing what would happen next, not being able to comprehend that I the once untouchable delinquent was now facing his first night in a cell. Imagine someone who believed they were superman; untouchable, unbreakable, invincible and all in one night becoming just and ordinary bystander. In one night he was exposed for who he really was, simple and ordinary, just like everyone else.

Quick Note - The rest of the night was uneventful, consisting of occasional remarks from passing officers expressing their abhorrence towards “The future generation of America”, obviously directed towards me.

When the bars to the cell finally opened, I had yet to sober up from the previous night’s apparent unruly, crass, and uncontrolled alcohol-induced behavior. Honestly though, I had very little recollection of the entire night beyond arriving at the party with friends. Even today, I am uncertain as to the day or the week, however, I can remember this fact; I had about ten minutes to arrive for my job at the local Best Buy. Fortunately, I was being

I consider myself someone who is a people person. I have always enjoyed interacting and working with others as opposed to working on a task by myself. My experiences have taught me that it has always been in situations that involve team dynamics or social interactions (starting in high school as rugby captain) that I have thrived both as a leader and as a firm contributor towards a common goal. I start off with this point because to me it seems that one must have the ability to lead others and to both understand and interact with the varying personalities and temperaments of people in order to enter into such a profession as dentistry. Furthermore, I feel as though I have been trying to mold such attributes through my experiences with my fraternity,…

In one of the coldest days of winter, I opened my eyes to this mysterious world in a private hospital located in the most entertaining city, Tehran. Since that day, my dreams and aspirations have been shaped in an odd manner in a conflict of values. I grew up in Iran in a traditional Persian family that was also influenced by western values. We were living in the middle of an Islamic Republic with a fundamentalist Islamic ideology that conflicted with my family values. “Our Family values are fundamental principles, they solidify the foundation for a strong, tight-knit family,” my uncle always says, to remind us the importance of the family values. My family’s values consist of honesty, generosity, forgiveness, tolerance of all beliefs, and keeping family traditions.…

Me and Gray hopped up. I didn’t know my way around the mall, so he grabbed my hand and started to pull me towards the other stores. I didn’t know whether or not to run or just act casual. I turned to my left and saw a family shopping for things, I looked over my shoulder to the right and there was the cop, staring me down. Me and Gray made a very unsmart decision and ran.…

It was 9:00 am, and the sky was grey like a wolf’s fur coat. The trees were waving back and forth behind me, they looked like tall giants. We were all called to the starting line and I could feel bullets of sweat slowly dripping down my face. I was more nervous than a man being interrogated. Five minutes later we get ready at the starting line.…

If ever a friend who was not involved with probation asked about one of my cases, I would politely inform them that my cases are confidential and that I am unable to share any information with them. I would have the same response for a friend who inquired about a case that was not assigned to me. The only time I would share information about my case load or any specific probationer, would be if a friend who was also a co-worker at probation inquired. Other than that, my cases are confidential and therefore should not be shared with anyone outside of Navajo County…

I take a seat on the cold stone bench of the arena. The rumble of the crowd fades into my head; the thick July air makes it hard to breathe. It is not my fight but my nerves acts as if it is, shaking in anticipation and fear. The competitors take their places on opposing ends of the field. I'm too far away to see their faces behind their masks but I can feel the adrenaline flow through my body and know that it doesn’t compare to what they must be feeling; knowing that this could be their last minutes alive. I wonder what they did to deserve this. Was it a crime of vengeance that earned them a spot in this place; or were they just an innocent slave that isn’t entitled to this harsh of sentence? One gladiator charges forward…

I have thought about it and in the past I have had things that changed me for better and for worst and things that I regret doing and not regret doing. Like during junior high I changed my look where my hair was down and I had glasses to hair as a Mohawk and I have contacts. That's something that I'm happy has happened to me. One thing that I regret was not growing my Jedi's braid on the right place of my head. In the past I used to be a very good student and not a very good soccer player. Then that started changing where I became good at soccer and started not doing good in school. But lately I have been trying to change that, so I can get straights A's so my Mom and Dad will be proud of me. But because my classes have been so rigores my…

The smell of fresh baked cookies and homemade buns rolled through the air. At that moment when I walked in my grandma’s house I knew she was making cookies and her homemade buns. Which were the best things in the world and will always be the best thing in the world. Ever since I was a little boy and I used to go my grandma’s for daycare she would make cookies and buns for my brother and I all the time. We would come home from school and go to her house until my parents were done with work. Most of the time that we walked through her door after school you could smell the delicious scent of fresh baked cookies and homemade buns. Almost every time she would have us help her with some things around her house and always said…

This one is really easy to answer. I never liked speaking in front of a crowd or class. If there was an in class project where we had the option for a speaking version or paper version, I would always choose the paper version. My issues with public speaking before taking this class was speaking in front of a crowd. I would get nervous and at times I would forget what I would say because I was afraid of talking.…

On the fourteenth I was assigned to the traffic unit on the night shift. The officer assigned to this position is given a traffic unit police vehicle, which is equipped with more items then other patrol cars. Some of the things being spike strips, laser radars and other various items. When on traffic duty the primary focus is on speeders. We were stationed near I-96 and took radar for the remainder of the night. We cited over twenty vehicles and had some other intense moments. For one of the stops we pulled over a felon that had a firearm in the vehicle. At this moment, my heart was beating much quicker and the situation became much more serious. We radio into dispatch for a priority unit to back us up. We then arrested the individual and drove to the jail. Most of the night consisted on specifically traffic duty with a slight amount of citizen calls.…
