NBCC Community Leadership Reflection
On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 as part of the NBCC Community Leadership Event, the first Level, I participated by volunteering at Boys and Girls Club from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
I came late 10 minutes because I had the eye-doctor appointment. I got Adrian’s gloves to work with Ashley Stevenson for raking and grabbing garbage. There are 8 people in me team. Our group members are Kailin Ferguson, Josh Vaughan, Marisa Hodgin, Ashley Stevenson, Vanessa Cunningham, Megan Hayward, Chelsea Loiser, and I. We cleaned the playground outside, arranged the shed, flatted the pebbles in the playground, and wiped the dust on the bookshelves and medal shelf.
It stayed with me during every step of this volunteering activity and make me in searching through the questions

WYP Ngo did not join in with the team discussion until later on, due to keeping the kids occupied while the adults were having a conversation. WYP Ngo gathered some information from the kids. The youth got an X-Box hard drive (the youth is playing games), the girls got Ipads, and they was able to spend time with extended relatives during winter break. The family got a donation of 3 computers. WYP Ngo will assist with setting the computers up. The youth had a half day at school, because he had dyed his hair (against school rules for boys to have dyed hair). The kids are doing better with their chores. The next one on one will be on January 19th, 2017. The next FTM will be on February 15th, 2017.…

I completed my community service for the Autism Speaks U 5K run/3K walk, which was located at Kendrick Park in downtown Amherst. The mission of this organization is to spread awareness and fund research for autism, and there are 4 pillars which are research, awareness, advocate, and family services. This organization serves children with autism who live anywhere in the nation and are the younger demographic, but can be any race/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and group identity. I am different from the people served because I do not have autism, but I understand that it is a disorder that is not very well understood, so it is monumental to try to change that by finding causes and treatments for autism to help families of children suffering…

Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…

Every morning I use to help the team leader lay things on each table for example pens and paper or counting blocks. After the children had their lunch then we would have circle time where the children sat around in a circle and had to sing songs. I mostly had a child on my lap every day, I tried to get the shy kids to join in and would sit next to them so they don’t feel alone or not involved. Every day in the first week in the afternoon from 3-5pm the children had to rehearse for their Christmas concert which was going to take place next week on a Friday. Me and staff members…

The skills that I have developed would help me a lot. I believe I will be a good SI leader because of my passion to assist other students with their difficulties. Recently, my roommate, who is currently taking International Economics, had a question about real exchange rate, so I did my research because I haven't heard the term and then explained it well to him. I will be a good SI leader because I am curious, care about other people's success, work well in a collaborative enivronment, and has always desired to tutor Economics since my freshman…

One particular instance where I have overdone my strengths is when I was on the community government for Connor Residence Hall and planned out the end-of-year event called Connorstock. This event is the community’s most popular event as it has the highest attendance by residents than any other events. In addition, Connorstock has been a tradition hosted by the Connor Community since 2005 and having it run successfully was key to maintaining its popularity. Connor Community Government was fully responsible for funding, planning out, and having its members run the event.…

An experience which taught me how to value life at its fullest, the day when I was informed about this activity I was actually in doubt if I would go or not; however, there was that feeling that pushes me to join. Then, the day had come, it was Friday afternoon where I packed my things and counted myself in. As we walked along the road towards the village, I have thought of those things that I left especially school works, but I made up a decision to let go of it for a while because I knew that there is still much important thing to do.…
