Community Board Meeting Reflection
One particular instance where I have overdone my strengths is when I was on the community government for Connor Residence Hall and planned out the end-of-year event called Connorstock. This event is the community’s most popular event as it has the highest attendance by residents than any other events. In addition, Connorstock has been a tradition hosted by the Connor Community since 2005 and having it run successfully was key to maintaining its popularity. Connor Community Government was fully responsible for funding, planning out, and having its members run the event. Two months before Connorstock, my community government had its weekly board meeting, in which we discussed what kind of activities and vendors we will have at Connorstock. Excited to take part in the community’s biggest event, I took initiative in the planning process by actively suggesting possible foods and activities to have at the …show more content…
Part of what makes Connorstock successful is that this event is different every year and stands out from the typical food and activities that other communities serve. Most of the plans I suggested to my team were not original, such as serving popcorn or shaved ice to residents, which most other communities do. Fortunately, I had the second chance as I contacted the Governor of Connor, who agreed to go over the Connorstock plans for additional input at the next meeting. At the next board meeting, I gave the opportunity for other community government members to offer their own ideas to the list. When other members gave their own thoughts, with most of them being creative and original, such as having funnel cakes and a stage where student music groups can perform. As a result, we eventually decided to make that year’s Connorstock a carnival theme, which turned out to be success as we received positive feedback from the residents and attendance that broke last year’s

In this next section S.W.O.T analysis will be used to analyze the festivals strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats which will provide the framework that the recommendations will be based upon. The festival has many strengths that have enabled its continued success since its infancy. The location for the festival alone is a great strength as it takes place within the popular Gros Morne National Park which provides a setting of amazing natural landscapes, and spectacular scenery for the event. It is apparent that the festivals majority of customers are locals from nearby communities, which is great as it shows the festival has the support of the nearby communities, and does not rely on visitors from afar or out of the providence. The strong focus on community can also be seen within the festival as there are various local artists, musicians, and writers showcased along with the numerous local programs and collaborations with local arts groups, including the: Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador, Gross Morne Summer Music Program, and school outreach programs.…

I have never been to a school board meeting before, so I am not entirely sure what to expect. I know it is an open meeting, so I am sure there will be several parents of students in the district as well as citizens of area that will be affected by decisions made by the school board. In terms of the agenda, the board will undoubtedly discuss future school functions and the associated budgets, as well as personnel matters. This is a policy-making meeting so I do not expect there to be much input from the audience other than possible questions or concerns. Hopefully the board will address the agenda in an efficient and time effective manor and all disputes will be put to rest.…

The strength the surprised me the most was Harmony. StrengthsQuest says, "In your view there is little to be gained from conflict and friction, so you seek to hold them to a minimum" (StengthsQuest, 2000). After reading a more in depth definition of Harmony, I know how I can utilize this strength. In my career, there are many peers and employees who thrive on conflict. By using this strength, I can sit down with both individuals who have a conflict and guide them towards resolution by breaking down what goal we need to work towards and what it takes for us to get…

I have learned from my areas of growth and turned them into strengths.. I try to stay quiet and not talk about dumb things or just keep quiet in general. Also, my impatience has actually helped me learn how to deal with certain people and work certain jobs. Now instead of getting mad and upset from little kids not listening I just learn to take their attention away from whatever they are doing wrong. My strength, of trying to get the job done that is put in front of me, has helped me become better prepared for the real world and what is to come after high school and college. Other strengths which were the inability to say no has helped me do well when working outside of…
