My Political Ideology
Upon completion of the political ideology quiz, my responses came in comparison of those which were identified as a centrist- with a personal score of 42%, while having an economic score of 52%, the label assigned shows a level of indecisiveness, or possibly a desire for mixing ideologies to achieve a beneficial outcome. On the ideology of my Representative, Lamar Smith, a Republican from District 21, my political ideas are moderate with a comparison to his hard-core Republican philosophy. Such noticeable disparities in regards to position can be found on the topic "social issues" such as abortion that elicit a message from the representative, put “women do not have the right to an abortion, it is morally incorrect and ethically flawed to allow

Moderates share the same views of other Republicans in terms of economic policy, balanced budget, lower taxes, free trade, deregulation, welfare reform, but differ in view on social views, such as same-sex marriage, abortion, gun control laws, environmental regulation and more. Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham have a very hawkish foreign policy but are to the left of their party in many other areas. Moderate Republicans were often called Rockefeller Republicans, or by the pejorative Republican In Name Only, often abbreviated "RINO." Moderate…

Radical Republican ideology was focused on the question of reconstruction. They believed that reconstruction was more important than the economy or any other concerns of the time. The two most prominent Radical Republican leaders, Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner, did not even agree on economic plans. (Foner 106) Instead, they wanted to use the expansion of power gained during the war, as a means to promote free labor, equality under the law, and black suffrage. Many wanted to see the plantation economy of the south transform into the family farms and small towns of New England, Upstate New York, and Ohio. (Foner 107) For some, this plan included giving freed slaves plots of lands. Radical…

    Libertarian Ideology

Another political ideology in the United States is the Libertarian Party. The Libertarian Party is based around the idea of liberty; where people are in control of their own lives without government interference. Similarly, they believe that sexual orientation, preference, gender or gender identity should have no impact on the government or their treatment of individuals. LGBTQ right’s would be protected in a libertarian society as personal relationships should have no government interference. Additionally, Libertarians believe that the government shouldn't be heavily involved in protecting the environment with their horrible track record regarding environmental protection. Clear rules and definitions should be set when dealing with the protecting…

My label assigned upon completing the quiz was Moderate Conservative which usually represent a mix of both liberal and conservative ideologies. Did you know that majority Americans classify themselves as Moderate Conservative because they are more moderate than conservative or liberal. The meaning that stands behind this label is that Moderate Conservative people strongly believe that the standards of morality and safety should be enforced by the government no matter what. Another belief is that each person should be responsible for there own financial matters, and that free-market competition is better for people than central planning by the government. However, unlike my representative Joaquin Castro who is a Libertarian-leaning Liberal, which is basically the opposite of myself. Mr. Castro believes in tolerance for different people and lifestyles. My representative also believes that a good society is best achieved by the government redistributing wealth and the governments purpose is to decide which programs are good for society, and how much should be spent on…

    Tea Party Ideology

Since the inauguration of President Obama, we have watched with horror how the Tea Party has taken over the GOP. What started up as a bunch of disgruntled misfits, has mushroomed into a larger movement and taken over the Republican Party. Arguably, they were aided and abetted by the libertarian oligarchs, David and Charles Koch’s hidden interests which financed and supported the groups with huge donations to their “cause” and candidates running on Tea Party platform. Gradually, we have seen GOP abandon its conservative core beliefs and shamelessly acquiesced to the irresponsible demands of this fringed group. The result is what is today the unrecognizable and clearly the un-conservative party formerly known as the GOP. Among other things, the Tea Party demanded ideological purity, views compromise as weakness, believes in fundamentalist scriptural literalism, vehemently denies scientific truths and are unmoved by facts or deterred by new information. They have a hostile fear of progress and actively demonize anyone who believes in education. They, like most conservatives have an inordinate desire…

If I were to describe my political ideology, I would consider myself mostly liberal with some independent views. I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. I think Americans need to be a little more accepting, and open to reaching out and helping those in need. This country needs to continue moving forward and growing, and I do not see that happening with a conservative in charge.…

The question of “are you conservative or liberal?” seems to me like an easy one to answer, But when I sit down and think about it I’m not so sure. On the values worksheets I scored “conservative” on three of them but the other three I was “other”. So this tells me I’m definitely not a liberal, I wouldn’t go as far to say that I’m a full-fledged conservative. While most of my views do line of with those of conservatives I have a few left wing views of my own. Like gay marriage, abortion, assisted suicide, and the use of embryonic stem cells for medical research. Before taking this class I always saw myself as a steadfast conservative but recently I see myself as more of a moderate leaning to the right. The reason I don’t identify as a conservative or liberal is because their views on many issues come off as radical to me. Some examples would be how anti-gay marriage many conservatives are and how staunch liberals want to move away from capitalism and become more socialist, which I believe is a bad idea. The best part of being a moderate is that I can have beliefs that originate from both left and right. Neither conservatives nor liberals have a perfect solution to everything but I personally believe that conservatives have more ideas that appeal to me than liberals and that’s why I lean to the right.…

My placement on the political compass was lower left being closer to the libertarian side but on the political spectrum I leaned a bit more towards the left-wing. Overall, this states that I believe social factors should be made by society and the economy should be controlled slightly more by the people than the government. As a whole I do agree with my placement however, modern society’s adversities continually challenge as well as affirm my current political placement, so I’m remaining open-minded. For the most part however, I do hold more liberal views especially in social issues, thus, I have naturally grown more fond of the liberal party than the conservative party. Through this assignment, I have gained a more in-depth understanding and…

It is a known fact that a substantial policy differences between the candidates in a particular race exists. The outcome of the race determines policy. Prior to taking the political compass test, I expected to get a left leaning centrist. Left wing on the economic scale and near the centre of the social scale. I have known I was left wing since the moment I understood the notion of political ideologies. I thought I was a Liberal before I knew what it really meant. I had once associated the right wing as backwards and close minded; against everything I have grown to stand for. At that point, I was not aware of the sheer scale of political ideologies and used stereotypes to make judgements on conservatism.…

The result that I received in taking the Political Idealogy Quiz was not one that I expected. I had expected to lean more in the other direction than I actually had. It does not feel to me like this quiz accurately reflects my stances on the matters that were shown in the questions. For this short essay, I will not be sharing what I made on the quiz because I would much rather keep a great majority of my political stances to myself than share them. The reason I do not think that the simple twenty-three question exam does not accurately depict my political standing is because of two things: it is a simple online quiz and the quiz itself is not, in my own personal opinion, created very well.…

The term political moderate can generally be used to describe someone who doesn't hold views on the far edges of the political spectrum. Moderates can be known to possess lower levels of political information and less likely be politically engaged than those who are closer to one of the ideological poles. Since they are so open to different ideas they may feel less involved in the political process; however, moderate is a favorable term in politics, one that condones pragmatism as opposed to extremists or radicalisms. Pragmatism allows for a variety of views on any philosophical topic. In the 2012 American National Election Study, 31 percent of Obama voters rated themselves and Obama as “moderate” or “slightly liberal,” while 21 percent of Romney voters rated both themselves and Romney as “moderate” or “slightly conservative.” Some of these people may identify with a particular party or describe themselves as independents. If they consider themselves members of a party, such as the Democratic or Republican Party, they will be open-minded about ideas from the opposition parties. One reason more Americans consider themselves moderates can be…

In today’s society, cheating, lying, and scandal is all part of everyday life, as is covering up cheating, lies, and scandals, so it is no surprise that these qualities are also extremely present in the government. The government spends too much time and money looking for criminals and arresting them for white collar crimes, than preventing the temptation to commit these crimes. In this sense, the government is corrupt, hiding their countries’ problems rather than preventing them. They spend more time looking for people cheating their taxes than attempting to figure out why it is these people find it so necessary to save money that they are willing to commit a crime to do so. Are these people not earning enough money? In which case the government could fix this issue and contact the employer to ensure that the workers are being paid reasonably. Or are these people simply copies of their governments’ main quality: corrupt. Rather than spending time looking for these people to arrest them and not resolve anything, the government should spend time preventing people from the desire to cheat and steal. I believe that governments’ priorities are improperly ordered.…
