I would not be the person I am today if I did not grow up playing soccer. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this sport but in the end playing soccer made me a better person. Playing soccer has taught me to work hard, to never give up, and to set my goals high and then reach them. Everything that I have learned from playing a physical and mentally demanding sport will continue to help me achieve in my future. My father was a very talented soccer player back in his day and loved the sport more than anything. When my sisters and I came into his life he wanted us to love soccer as much as he did. We all had soccer balls in our cribs, and as soon as we were old enough to stand we were learning how to kick. I grew up on the sidelines

I remember when I was five, I would always attend my step sister’s soccer games during the weekend while at my dad’s. I would always love to watch but I was more of a hands on person. I have always wanted to play soccer but unfortunately it was harder to do for a kid, like me, when I had divorced parents that lived 40 minutes away from each other. I had played soccer ever since I could remember however, as high school approached, I knew that I needed a change, so I decided to play field hockey. At first I was petrified; I had no idea what to expect from high school sports and on top of that I had no idea how to play field hockey. Therefore going into the first day of preseason, I focused on what I did know how to do: work hard. I ran as fast as I could and pushed myself beyond my limits and as a result, I made the varsity field hockey team as a freshmen. While this did mean a lot to me, what I believe is even more valuable are the important lessons that I have learned along the way.…
