My Interview With Mrs. Mullins
I had always been a very reserved kind of teenager, the type that would be in the background and not be noticed by anyone. I never really had a passion about a subject at school, so i never thought too hard about what i wanted to study after high school, or if i would even continue my education. Since i was shy talking to people was not exactly one of my favorite kinds of things to do, so i had actually surprised myself when i decided to sign up for a class that you had to be interviewed to get in. It was my sophomore year in high school, and it was a spur of the moment decision. I ignored all the jitters that i had been having and worked up the courage to go talk to my counselor about getting me an interview with Mrs.Mullins. She was the one that taught Clinicals, which was the class i wanted to …show more content…
I wore regular clothes, the type you'd wear around the house. It was a school day, and the loudspeaker had come on. “Juan Resendiz, please report to room 124” The reaction in the classroom was what you'd expect from a bunch of teenagers. As i left the room and walked down the hall, i could still hear the “you're in trouble!” and laughter coming from my classroom. Mrs.Mullins greeted me as i walked into the room, and sat down. They asked me the basic questions like “why do you want to join clinicals?”, “ what would you like to learn from taking this class?”, “what previous experience have you had relating to the medical field?”. I nervously answered all their questions, and left pretty sure that i had blown the interview. A few weeks had passed, until i had finally received a letter from Mrs.Mullins. It was a letter of acceptance. I remember feeling shocked, overjoyed, and filled with glee. For the first time in a long time, i felt like i had something to be excited for in school. Class was due to start the very next week, and we would be going to visit hospitals a few days after

When I arrived to Brunswick Novant Medical Center, it was a nice day, the sun was out and the flowers were in bloom down the pathway leading up to the main entrance. When I walked into the hospital, wearing my scrubs there was a cool chill to the air much different from the outside. It was pretty chilly in there and the building smelled like hand sanitizer. The main lobby was very welcoming with chairs and magazines on the little end tables. The receptionists at the desk welcomed me with an inviting greeting, “May I help you”. I went towards the hall on the left that led to the elevators that took me to the second floor, where the nurse I was going to interview worked at.…

When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

Going in to this interview, I was not certain what to expect at all. I had prepared a few questions and anticipated it lasting maybe ten to fifteen minutes at the most. However, my mental image of the interview did not remotely match up to what actually occurred. My interviewee was Dr. Hal B. Woodall, a medical doctor who owns Kenly Medical Associates, his private practice, but also comes in to the Wilson Medical Center to closely follow along with his patients, although he is not employed by, paid, or charged by the hospital for his services there. He has owned this practice and followed this routine for the past 38 years, ever since he completed his residency and internship at what is now known as Virginia Commonwealth University’s medical center. He attended the University of…

“Hey, how did you get here?” that was a confusing question posed by a nineteen-year-old Hispanic patient with abdominal pain. This interaction occurred during the first week of my third-year internal medicine clerkship. Since he was starting a community college, he was unaware of the process of becoming a doctor. The patient wanted to understand how I became a medical student. I responded by stressing the importance of volunteering, attending a competitive school, and taking the MCAT.…

I am not your traditional medical school applicant. I do not have a 4.0 at a fancy big U nor have I helped helpless African children fight malaria, which is a goal of mine, but I digress. I did not make the best choices when I was younger and did not realize my full potential until the age of 21. I attended a semester at a party school when I was 18 and convinced myself school was not for me, when in fact, it was just an excuse to coast by. I never challenged myself at the awkward age 16-20 years old. I waited tables, worked in a warehouse, and did part time labor-intensive work to pay the rent and bills. I did enough just enough to get by. However, when I was 20, everything came into perspective. I was at a party having a great time with my best friend; I was in Louisiana at the time and as they say, “laissez les bon temps rouler”, translated, let the good times roll. That quickly changed. My best friend had a 5-minute long seizure, as everyone looked dumbfounded around him; I quickly took action, put him on his side and called 911. After a couple hours in the waiting room, two doctors…

The morning of the first day of my clinical preceptorship I had such a mix of emotions. I had been lying in bed awake for hours because I felt too much excitement to sleep. My alarm went off and the nerves set in sending one question after another swirling through my head. Would my preceptor be nice? Would I disappoint her? Would I remember my lab values? Would I remember my skills? What if someone crashes will I know what to do? If everything is okay will I know what to do? A year of nursing school was coming to an end and suddenly I felt like I had forgotten everything. I arrived at the hospital much earlier then I needed to and tried to relax. I took a deep breath and headed in to the ICU trying to pretend that I wasn’t terrified. I obviously…

I applied to be a Link Crew member, which is a class where juniors and seniors help freshmen with their high school transition. What caused my failure is that when I was writing my essay and when I did my interview, I focused on my high school transition rather than what would I do to make freshmen's high school transition easier. Instead of telling my teachers what I would do to make freshmen feel more comfortable, to get involved, and how to keep them updated, I told my teachers about how I felt during my high school transition and that I did not want freshmen to feel the same way. This experience relates to the way I imagine myself in college because I feel that I will always be focusing on myself, on what do I have to do to keep good grades…

I walked in on the first day of freshman year, not knowing what the school year held in store for me. I had no idea what classes and teachers were assigned to me. We went to our first period, which for me was Geometry. The bell rang and came second period. My schedule said "Public Speaking," but I did not have a clue on what that was. I began to get tense and anxious because surprises are not my thing. The teacher walked in and said, "Hi, welcome to Public Speaking. You'll be learning how to speak in front of a large group of people. We will be reading speeches and also debating against one another." My heart dropped. I started to get even more edgy. All my life before freshman year, I struggled tremendously to speak in front of a class. My…

Later that year I began my sophomore term and I knew it was the year we would be informed whether we were suitable candidates for the National Honor Society. My guidance counselor informed me that there was no particular area that I was weak and struggling in. I possessed the four qualities that an individual has to have: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. I continued to work hard and have patients with all that put forth in front of me. Soon the nomination’s date approached. I was nervous, yet anxious. I sat patiently and waited with high hopes and positive thoughts. The executive board of the time delivered the nomination letters. After about three minutes my name was finally called. The excitement on the inside was visible on the outside through the smile on my face. After finding out the necessary steps needed to be taken, I got to work. I wrote my essay and prepared a folder with proof of community service and extracurricular…
