Hildegard von Bingen
“Play of Virtues”

At the beginning of the song, it wasn't singing instead she was talking. Then she started to sing right after she was done talking. I couldn't follow the translation because it sounded like Latin or French. I kept listening to it over and over but I couldn't understand what the words meant. She does have the most beautiful voice though. She sounds like an opera singer. I noticed when she hit high notes she sounded off key. It was way too high pitch and much louder, and stronger vocal. At the point when she went back to normal pitch, it sounds so much better and was a little quiet. The background sounds like music in a catholic church. I believe it is an acapella music with solo vocal without instrumental sound. In this song, the most striking feature is acapella music with monophonic texture. I think this song is successful because it is very calm and smooth background although some pitches are way too high for her to sing. She reached her highest pitch at 3:18 in the song.

Dominique plays the piano softly, emphasising the voice is “longing for a child that will give him their all”. Then the lyrics introduce the voice as God walking over the earth. “He’s searching for a heart that is desperate” and is “longing for a child that will give him their all”. After the verse, the song merges into the first chorus by stating that the messenger, God, asks who will love him with their whole heart “today”? The word today becomes the emphasizing part of the song that gently demands for an immediate response from the chorus goes on with God’s speaking and rhetorically asking for someone to “serve me, serve me with your life now” because “he wants it all today”. Advancing to the second half of the chorus, the lyrics get specific by God asking a child, or anyone for that matter, to “bow down, let go of your idols,” because “he wants it all today. He wants it all today”. During the repetition of the second half of the verse, the instrumental background remains low and beautiful to show the voice is gentle and kind. However, Dominique progresses from a low piano credenza pairing with the chorus’ end, to an instrumental and vocal explosion into a bridge, the part of lyrical transition for dynamics in a song. Dominique vocally expresses the “voice’s need” to find someone desperate to long for him and give all to him. Dominique invites the listener to respond as she sings the second bridge and she is persuasive in vocal expression repeating the line “he wants it all today, he wants it all, so give it all”. She then returns to the first verse and rounds off the song, reminding the listener of why her voice is so persuasive and gentle: “There’s a voice that cries out in the silence…give it all, He wants it…

“Entertainment is always a national asset. Invaluable in times of peace, it is indispensable in wartime. All those who are working in the entertainment industry are building and maintaining national morale both on the battlefront and on the home front.” Franklin D. Roosevelt 1 The 1960s was one of the most dramatic decades we see throughout American history. The music of the 1960s played an important role socially, economically, and culturally. To this day, the music out of the 1960s is how that decade is highly remembered to today’s generation.…

The tone of her voice at times intensifies as to show her sorrow and shame. The instrumental music becomes somber again, and the texture of the music seems to be in anguish, as the orchestra comes together in between the solo parts to emphasize the emotion.…

Her musical style arose from a fusion of gospel and pop songs with classical music, in particular with influences from her first inspiration, Johann Sebastian Bach, and accompanied with her expressive jazz-like singing in her characteristic contralto. She injected as much of her classical background into her music as possible to give it more depth and quality, as she felt that pop music was inferior to classical. Her intuitive grasp on the audience-performer relationship was gained from a unique background of playing piano accompaniment for church revivals and sermons regularly from the early age of six years old.…

    Ave Maria

Ava Maria is a very popular catholic church song. It was a prayer to mother Mary put to music. The Prayer was called Hail Mary. When Celine Dion covered the song she kept the same meaning as the original. Celine was a roman catholic, she was born into a big catholic family with 14 kids. This I believe is the reason she choose to cover the song. The song Ava Maria would be very meaningful to Celine Dion because the Roman Catholic church hold Mother Mary very high. They came to call her Mother of god.…

The form of the music is more like a ballad because she is telling a dramatic story about someone that she lost whom she loved dearly. The style of music from the Classical Era is predominantly homophonic, consisting of a single melody line with accompaniment as opposed to the polyphonic style of the Baroque Era which weaves together a number of melodic lines. Composers of the Classical Era rejected the elaborate styles of the Baroque Era, which they considered self-indulgent and vulgar. They simplified harmonic structures, shortened musical phrases and applied symmetry that was often lacking in the music of their predecessors. The Classical Era also saw a shift to more instrumental genres, particularly the symphony and the string…

    Taylor Swift Analysis

I found this song to contain many musical concepts to create pleasing sounding song. The song features a homophonic texture by using Taylor Swift's vocals and accompaniment with her guitar. The beat and the rhythm in this song are very pronounced, the steady repetition of the majority of the same phrases. However she does differ in the throughout the song, for example at 12:14 the beat becomes noticeably spread apart from the previous sections. The beat continues to keep the time of the song up but there appears to be less beats per measure. The texture gives the song a simple and clear feeling and melody. The homophonic texture in the song highlights the melody played. The melody in 22 appears to be disjunct as her vocals range from low to high. In the video 12:52 is a good example of Taylor Swift using the disjunct melody. I feel that her use of melody gives the song depth and provides an upbeat feeling for the listener. I found that the main instrumentation in the song were from the string family, the guitar, the electric family, for the keyboard and use of her voice. I found that the pitch of the song remained at a relatively average speed throughout the song. Overall, I feel that Taylor Swift beautifully executed her song by using musical elements and her talent as a…
