Movie Review: The Conjuring
The Conjuring
In the conjuring we are presented to the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens are to help the Perron family with their haunted house in Harrisville, Rhode Island. The psychic Lorraine determines rapidly that the house may need an exorcism, and contacts the Catholic Church, but is told that they need evidence on paranormal disturbances, before performing the exorcism. While putting up cameras and microphones around the house to gather evidence, Ed and Lorraine discovers that the house once belonged to a witch, Bathsheba, who sacrificed her newborn baby to the devil and hung herself afterwards. Bathsheba is now possessing every woman, whom is trying to take over her land.
Bathsheba possesses the mother, Carolyn, and makes her trying to stab the daughter Christine. Meanwhile, Ed and the other assistances, saves Christine and Ed starts performing the exorcism on Carolyn, by himself. Lorraine makes Carolyn remember a happy memory, which allows Ed to complete the exorcism.

Analysis
The conjuring is a horror story with a twist of terror. In the beginning we don’t actually see the spirits, which allows us to use our imagination (terror). Towards the middle and the end of the movie, we see all the ghosts and spirits, but there aren’t any nasty details (horror). The conjuring is a supernatural movie, since we are introduced to creepy things, which can’t be found in the real world (unless you believe in spirits and exorcism). Under the category ‘supernatural’ we find the sub-genre ‘the marvelous’ since we are faced with something we can’t explain, but choose to accept the supernatural as being real.

My evaluation
The Conjuring is a very well made horror movie; it is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. However, during the exorcism, things got a bit exaggerated, and it became slightly untrustworthy. Besides the exorcism, I really liked the movie and it will definitely be found on top of my list of horror movies.

We all like to show that we can conquer our fear given the circumstance. A horror film can be practice for the real thing or atlas it makes us feel like we are somehow or someway prepared. We all know sick jokes. Sick jokes that we hear from the people we least expected it to come from but it's inside everyone and that's a horror movie job and it does it beautifully. It's job is to deliberately bring the little piece of darkness inside us to surface long enough to be enjoyed and then sends it back inside once the credits show at the end of the…

Several days later, Moses’s prayers payed off, Annabelle fully recovered from her trauma and the whole family were really relieved of the news. A week later, a visitor named John Hale came to the Hembling home to question Annabelle, knowing she was sworn to secrecy, he claimed that all the girls danced and that was all. Moses quickly caught on and knew she was lying, in spite of that he kept his mouth shut. As soon as John Hale left, Moses wanted to talk to his sister about what happened in the woods, all that Annabelle said to him was that “the girls were doing what they thought could bring them happiness but in reality they are only giving themselves to the devil”. To Annabelle, what Tituba was doing seemed like witch craft. Moses and his father then laid the whole thing to…

    Spirited Away Review

Spirited away is an enchanting, dazzling, and gorgeously drawn fairy tale that will leave the viewers a little more curious and fascinated by the world around them. This Japanese animated fantasy film was directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki, and was released on July 27, 2001. The story was based on Miyazaki’s friend’s ten year old daughter, who visited his house every summer. The movie portrays a sullen ten year old girl, Chihiro Ogino (voice by Daveigh Chase), and her parents who were driving to their new home, when her father takes a wrong turn and ends up at what they think is an abandoned amusement park, but really is an alternate reality inhabited by monsters and spirits. Witch Yubaba turns her parents into pigs, and in order to find a way to free herself and her parents and escape into the human world, Chihiro takes a job working at Yubaba’s bathhouse. This movie can compare to ‘Alice in the Wonderland’ because they both tell the story of a 10-year-old girl who wanders into a world of strange creatures and illogical rules. It was a little hard to interpret the meaning and moral of the movie at first, but it was still a pleasure to watch. The cinematography was well done and the animations were well flowing and seemed to dance off the screen. Director Miyazaki’s drawing style is incredible, and is much different from classical Japanese graphic artists, with its clear lines, rich detail, subtle uses of colors, and the realistic deception of fantastic elements. The music in this film was composed and conducted by Miyazaki's regular collaborator Joe Hisaishi, and performed by the New Japan Philharmonic. The music was beautifully put together, and in the special features of the DVD, Hayao Miyazaki explains how the song in fact inspired him to create Spirited Away. Therefore, I give this film an A-, and Spirited away is a work of pagan imagination that everyone should watch…

Or create your own theory( could be a hybrid of the three or something that goes in a complete differnt direction). If you create your own theory, youwill still need to reference scholary work( the textbook or outside research) to support your claim. in the book by Noel Carroll" the philosophy of Horror" Illusion theory states we are horrified by the manifestation of being in the presence of a monster. the pretend theory states that if we are aware that the monsters are not real then how can we form a genuine emotion of fear.the thought theory states that if thought the monster was real it could create a sense of fear, thought is used here as a term of art that is meant to contrast to belief.the theory i think best answer the question why people enjoy scary movies would be the thought theory.the thoght therory reflects the way i veiw scary movies,it the possiblity that the monster on the film could actually exist at the moment and time that i am actually watching the movie,it creates fear for the remaning of the movie.to be able to entertain scary thoughts brings the horror films to life.in the movie "The Exorcist" th possibilies that the devil can actually possess a child,is frieghting to watch on…

This is fun with a twist, macabre and voyeuristic, and enjoyed from the particular vantage point of knowing that it is not real, and more importantly, that it cannot happen to us. The thrill of a horror movie allows not only a suspension of reality, but also of the cynical, jaded view of reality that we feel, as adults, we must bring to bear on our lives.…

I enjoyed the movie because it had a realistic setting; most scary movies are more imaginary, then realistic. This particular movie was scary from begging to end, from arriving to the hospital in funeral cars with a leading hearse to the end of survivors (can’t tell you if there are any survivors). Its ghost apparitions and the whole scenery of how these patients were tortured and experimented on its just scary!! Setting of the old hospital, its rusted walls and left behind wheelchairs, surgery tools, and how the ghosts would walk towards you!! My favorite part was when one of the guests was hiding from the ghosts in the closet and as she’s looking out of the closet she sees apparitions of a patient being tortured from the doctors and nurses, guest is struggling to keep quiet and makes a small noise, and the doctor and nurse stop what they are doing and slowly turn towards closet!!…

Throughout this film filmgoers never actually see what is making the sounds or attacking things. One major scene plays with shadow play in the film. Alice is going to take a swim, after she gets dressed she puts on her long robe. She turns off the lights to get ready to go into the swimming pool area. There is a black cat that is down there with her. It starts to hiss at the stairs, but there is nothing on the stairs. The cat gets scared and runs away. Alice takes a look and hears growling and a shadow starts to descend down the stairs. Alice screams and drops her robe. She hops into the deep end of the swimming pool. The growling and the black shadow do not go away though. She sees a figure walking around the outside of the pool, but she cannot be certain of what it actually is. Just a figure of black that makes sounds. Eventually the ladies from upstairs run downstairs and Irena is standing there and turns on the lights. There is no animal to be seen. When Alice goes to put her robe on it’s in shreds. Something had been there, but it is gone now. Another time is when Alice is walking home she keeps thinking something is behind her and there is nothing ever there when she turns around. Again the directors used shadow play to mess with the victims in the film. It also has the audience wondering what is really going on, and if there is a creature or…

Alfred Hitchcock once said, “The only way to get rid of my fears is to make films about them” (Alfred Hitchcock Quotes). I do not make horror films, but I do watch them. Similar to Hitchcock, they help me face my fears. Do you associate horror films with your fears? My biggest fears are demonophobia, which is the fear of evil spirits, and taphephobia, which is the fear of being buried alive (Phobia Lists). These phobias most certainly helped in my decision to compare and contrast the horror movies The Exorcist and The Ring, in my opinion, the two scariest movies of all time. The Exorcist and The Ring share a similarity; they both have an evil spirit working to create terror; however, they used completely different mediums to make contact with our world: a human body and technology – a television.…
