Most Outstanding Service Observation
Most Outstanding Service Event The most outstanding service event I have participated in is The Backyard Talent Show for St. Jude. The Backyard Talent Show for St. Jude is the best service project I participated in because it helps others. The Talent Show was started nine years ago by my sister, cousins, and I. It is a lot of hard work, but is worth it in the end because it helps others. All the proceeds of the show go directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Throughout the years we have gotten to know St. Jude families. By getting to know these families we have gotten to experience first hand whom the money we raise benefits, and it has been a very humbling experience. The Talent Show is a great event because it is a community

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

I have learned so much about what it means to be a Leader and a role model. Through the club, I have discovered the joys of serving others and serving the community. To make a child smile is truly the best feeling that one can have and it is all that I hope to receive as payment. I believe that if everyone spent just one hour volunteering a week, they too could begin to form that footprint that everyone has always wanted to make on the world. Maybe they would even start to see that true joy lies within the success of others, not in the numbers in your bank account. Changing the world seems like a daunting task, but if each person is able to touch the lives of one other person, I think we’d soon find out that the world is not as big as it seems to…

My biggest community activity is for Special Olympics of New Jersey. My family and I attend many of the events for SONJ including the Summer Games. I started volunteering by working and playing with the athletes. The area we staffed was where the athletes came to take a break and play with carnival-like games. The ages ranged from little kids to adults. It was fun putting smiles on their faces when you told them they won! It showed me we aren’t any different than them. They still like to do sports and have fun. They love to win prizes as do we. They just have disabilities that make them special. Over all volunteering for SONJ is a fantastic experience and in my opinion every boy and…

Our soldiers leave wars in foreign countries only to fight another war at home. David Finkel explores the hidden pain and suffering of war-families and veterans in his book Thank You For Your Service. Finkel, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and author of a New York Times Best Book of the Year, has spent hours upon hours researching, interviewing, and simply documenting what a two-decade war does to a soldier and their family. With no specific target audience, it is at least suggested those unfamiliar with PTSD and TBI should spend some times diving into the heart-breaking and up-lifting stories. Finkel uses stories and their meanings to appeal to the emotions of the readers to support his idea of the hidden pain and suffering of our veterans and…

Altogether, being in the Youth Volunteer Corps group has allowed me to mature by seeing how much poverty is around and making me realize how grateful I should be. I have met new people and have become friends with people I thought I would never talk to. It has showed me how much fun you can have if you keep an open mind. The experiences I have gained will help me in the future as I move away from home and deal with diverse personalities and people from all walks of life. I…

Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…

Over the weekend of November 5-6, myself and some fellow LEADStrong leaders had volunteer our weekend at the Villanova 28th Annual Special Olympics. The reason why I’ve chosen to do this as my service project because ever since I was high school I’ve always loving to arrive onto campus on cold early morning seeing all the smiling faces of everyone involved with the whole event just puts me a better mood because in the beginning it can be overwhelming. However, once the first hour passes you can’t help to feel like you are a part of something great that words cannot describe how fun this weekend truly is. While spending my service hours at the Special Olympics some of the jobs that was covered the course of the weekend included: proving the…

Exemplar service programs that I contributed to were Swing for Laurie’s Kids, a tennis program intended for people with a mental handicap; as well as Top Soccer, a soccer camp for individuals with a mental impairment. Athletically, I have counseled my tennis coach with player placement, in addition to being a judge at a cross-fit competition known as the Battle of the Boxes. At school, I undertake the task of managing the library, and actively assist with student council projects such as: collecting donations for servicemen, wrapping shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and placing and removing homecoming decorations.…

The senior project I chose to do, was to compete in the John Muir Woods Marathon. I decided to run this marathon because running has always been a passion of mine, and I wanted to take it to the next level and compete in an official marathon. In training for the marathon, I learned self discipline, endurance, and how to have stamina. I also learned, that a marathon (26.2 miles) is a lot longer than it actually seems! I was able to raise a total of $336.20 towards the Danny Zabicki Foundation.…
