Module One: Discussion Questions
1. What are the different parenting styles used by families? Which do you think is better? Why? There are three types of parent of parenting styles. The first one is the authoritarian style, where the parents have all the authority, and only their decisions matter; The second one is the permissive style, where parents let their children have the authority, they set their own rules; And the third one is the democratic style, where the decisions are usually made after taking the interests of all family members into account.
In my opinion the democratic style is better because it makes their children feel like their decision matter, but doesn’t give them the authority to run over their parents.
2. What makes a person ready for parenthood? When should an individual consider entering parenthood? Who should postpone parenthood? Should everyone become a parent eventually? Do you think some people should not become parents altogether. I think a person is ready to become a parent when he or she is financially stable and when is completely sure that have everything to raise and support a child. An individual should consider entering parenthood when she or he is married and both agree and having a baby. People should postpone parenthood if they know they are not ready emotionally and financially. I think been a parent is something beautiful that everybody should experience in life, but unfortunately not everyone is meant to be a parent. People that don’t know how to give love to someone shouldn’t become a parent.
