1. What are the differences between being a biological parent, an adoptive parent, and a foster parent? Biological parents: raises the child they created using their own DNA, adopted parents: raises a child they purchased through a private agency or adopted from foster care that they didn't/couldn't create using their own DNA, and foster parents: Many are rental parents in essence but many hope to adopt if they bond with the child. Many foster parents just foster kids for supplemental income and don't plan on adopting.
2. What financial needs are parents obligated to provide and which are optional? The financial needs that parents are obligated to provide are nutritious food, shelter, clothing, and health care. This also includes college.
3. What other needs might a child have that a parent is expected to provide? Other needs parents are expected to provide for their child are emotional stability, proper education, discipline, safety, and security.
4. What are the qualities of a nurturing parent? The qualities of a nurturing parent are support and and take care of their childs needs whether it be pshychological or physical.
Critical Thinking Questions
1. What qualities make a person a good parent? A bad parent? I think I would say that the amount of caring and being there for your child when they need you makes you a good parent. Qualities for a bad parent can be that the parent is never around, not spending quality time with their child which is crucial. Not disciplining properly is also a big problem.
2. Which parental responsibilities do you think would be the most challenging? Why? I think the most challenging responsibility is financially supporting your child, you never know when you could get laid off or fired from your job. The way the economy is going, you can’t always trust your job for the most part.
3. Which parental responsibilities do you think would be the most interesting to you? Why?
4. What are some things that people can do to prepare for parenthood?
