The U.S Embassy Algiers announces… The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) MEPI STUDENT LEADERS PROGRAM Summer 2012

What is the MEPI Youth Summer Leadership Institute?  It is a fully-funded five-week intensive leadership training program in the U.S. for undergraduate students.  Participants develop leadership and collective problem-solving skills, exploring U.S. history and culture to expand their leadership skills and knowledge.  The Program consists of hands-on leadership training workshops, academic sessions, site visits, community service projects, optional home stays and other opportunities for interaction with Americans peers, and other cultural activities.  The program runs from June 26th, and August 07th, 2012 for six weeks. It includes a five-week academic residency program at the host institution, and a one-week educational study tour designed to complement and reinforce the concepts explored in the academic residency.  Students also participate in an alumni conference held in the Middle East or North Africa in early 2013.  The program is fully funded, including international airfare, travel within the United States, accommodation, food, and program fees. Yes you can if…               You are an Algerian citizen, living in Algeria, and attending school in Algeria, You will be 18 to 24 years old as of June 1st , 2012, You are currently in your 1st, 2nd , 3rd or 4th year of college or university, Are committed to returning to your home country/community following completion of the program, You still have one year of studies to finish at your return to Algeria, You are proficient in English, You have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations, You are mature, responsible, independent, open-minded, tolerant, and thoughtful You demonstrate strong leadership potential, You have a strong interest in learning

    The accuracy of the ‘Modified Evans Blue Dye Test’, for detecting aspiration pneumonia: A literature review.Objective: The ‘Modified Evans Blue Dye Test’ is a common procedure, used to detect aspiration pneumonia. The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of ‘Modified Evans Blue Dye Test’, across published clinical studies. Method: The speech pathologist conducted a literature review. Articles were collected from a variety of resources and analysed - using Dollaghan’s (2005) meta-analysis framework. Common themes were identified and categorized. Results: The speech pathologist identified 25 studies that examined the ‘Modified Evans Blue Dye Test’. Of these articles, only 10 met the criteria for inclusion. Studies reported failure, for the detection of small trace particulates. Studies were also of a decreased quality. Conclusion: Speech pathologists should be aware of the test’s limitations, when screening for aspiration pneumonia. Further research, into this topic is required.Key words: aspiration pneumonia, tracheostomy, ‘Modified Evans Blue Dye Test’, dysphagia.…
