The career that I chose for my research paper is a Child Life Specialist. I chose Child Life Specialist because it’s the career that I want to pursue in the future, and the career that I’m most interested in at the moment. I was first introduced to the career when I went to the hospital with my four year old nephew so he could get some tests ran on him and while we were there, they had a lady come into the room to keep my nephew company and basically explain to him what was going to happen at the hospital that day like what kind of tests they were going to take on him and how they were going to do it, and she played games with him on the Ipad and got him a box of Legos to keep him occupied. Since that day I’ve wanted to be a Child Life Specialist.…

Being a pediatric surgeon would be a rush of a job , at least in my eyes . I think , I would choose being a Pediatric surgeon because everyday would be something new . Every case would be a new case . There are many reasons why I want to become a pediatric surgeon . Every family would be a new family and a new challenge . But , the only thing with being a pediatric surgeon , you would have to be able to control your emotions , and feelings towards the children . I say that because seeing a little boy or girl hurt , or has a serious injury , or even a common disease like cancer than many people all over the world get . The emotions are different , they are stronger and more harder to deal with and handle because the thought of a child going through that much pain , the pain a full on adult goes through can make it harder to work on the case . Being a pediatric surgeon would be a rush , well some days . Some days are bad and others are just ordinary .…

College is a time of both academic and personal growth. I plan on attending medical school upon completion of my bachelor's degree. To me, practicing medicine is more than just the biological aspect, it involves understanding humans at all levels. A background in psychology or sociology will give me an edge in the nonbiological areas of patient care. Aside from that, when I do end up going to medical school, I am not expecting to have much of a choice when it comes to what classes to take and when to take them. Studying psychology or sociology in college is going to be now of the only opportunities that I will have to study what interests me.…

As I have gotten older my goals have shifted to and from many professions that have caught my interests. The recurring theme was always children and my ability to help them. I gave serious thought to pursuing a teaching position, or a few different types of attorney that would put me in the position to help children making questionable decisions, or becoming doctor. I realized my dream of becoming a pediatric oncologist a few years ago when I became interested in oncology and then realized I could combine two of my passions, children and cancer. While I am aware that pediatric oncology is a tough, demanding profession I want to be a part of it because of the opportunity it presents to make a difference and help people. It seems especially rewarding…

After observing a brain-surgery inside the operation theater for 6 hours, I realized that I had the grit and motivation to pursue medicine as a career. It was my first visit to the operation theater. I was very elated and overwhelmed to earn the opportunity to view the most intricate surgery of all. I was just a few feet away from the patient who was undergoing the surgery. The feeling in me could be comparable to that of a child waiting curiously and patiently to receive a chocolate when distributed in class. I could feel a surge of passion flowing through my veins and I felt a sense of relief, as I was never this sure of my dream to become a surgeon. Every single moment, from the time the surgeons were putting incisions into the scalp to…

Before starting the process of becoming a physician (or any profession) you must do some honest soul searching. First of all you must be aware of the time commitment involved in becoming a physician. Medicine is a career that requires many years of preparation. Generally most people graduate college at age 22 and medical school at 26. Then after 3 years of internship and residency, many physicians begin their career at age 29. However, the training for some specialties can last until the physician's early to mid 30's. Obviously this can delay plans for marriage and starting a family. Some people begin their medical education after pursuing other careers, which can further delay the completion of their medical training. You must decide early on if you are willing to dedicate the time it takes to become a physician. As you can see, this is not a decision to be made lightly.…

Throughout my childhood, many individuals posed that infamous question: “So, what are you going to be when you grow up?” I cringe even now as I write it. During my childhood, the answer came quickly and with assurance: “A doctor.” I don’t know quite when I settled on that profession, but there it was, for all to marvel. My high school education was organized to take advantage of all the honors courses my school offered, as I knew this would look much more attractive when I applied to college and eventually medical school.…

upon entering medical school and after being exposed to all areas of medicine, I leaned more towards pediatrics because of its analytical and deductive reasoning to approach diagnosis even from seemingly minor symptoms and laboratory results. Although enormous in volume, its simplicity has often enamored me. I felt most satisfied after completing my pediatrics medicine rotation than any other rotation. I was amazed by the complex and labyrinthine interconnectedness of the body systems. My keen sense of observation helped me to focus on all systems rather than one, ultimately leading me to the correct diagnosis.…
