Mary Maloney Case Study
Mary Maloney was a loving wife to her husband. When her husband had told her he was leaving her she reacted by killing him. For these actions, Mary should be charged with second-degree murder of Patrick Maloney because she had not previously planned to murder him and it was an impulsive action. Mary loved her husband very much. She probably wouldn’t even lay a feather on him. But it all changed after her husband had told her that he was going to leave her. “The violence of the crash, the noise, the small table overturning, helped bring her out of shock ”(13). Mary clearly was in shock when she had killed her husband. Her being shocked suggested that she was surprised at her actions and had not planned on killing him. After Patrick had told

Maloney is innocent, there are some statements that were made that could make the assumption that she is guilty. According to case files, Detective One stated, “ You know just as well as I do he used to fool around from time to time.”(Dahl). Giving her a reason to be angry at him and cause her to do something by the heat of the moment. But, due to the fact that Mrs. Maloney is pregnant, it would be hard for her to use an instrument like the one mentioned, or use as much force as needed to kill Patrick Maloney, as stated by Detective Three. Mr. Maloney made her a pleased wife and gave her no suspicion as to if he was being unfaithful or…

First, Mary Maloney had killed her husband because he wanted to divorce. In anger Mary got a leg of lamb from the freezer and after hearing the news of wanting a divorce, Mary acted fast with disapproval ,and so” she swung the leg of lamb high and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head”(Dahl 3).This proves that Mary defeated her demons and had not wanted a divorce so she took matters into her own hands.Second after killing her husband should found a successful and creative way to hide the crime. after killing her husband she decided to cook the leg of lamb so she “... placed it in a pan and turned on the oven on high and shoved it inside.”(Dahl 4) What's my reason because Mary killed her husband and couldn't deal with the fact that she was going to jail for those acts, so she covered up the crime and successfully defeated her demon. In conclusion, Mary had successfully defeated her demons and was able to progress in…

“I find you, Alice Dubson,Guilty of the murders of Sarah, Jonathan and Tyson Dubson” the judge's words reverberated through the courtroom causing searing tears to well within her now glassy eyes and her to shake her head while incoherently screaming “no” as if she was a broken record player. Her body was trembling as continued to scream at the judge who merely smirked at us while fondling a disgustingly thick roll of money under his podium. Her screams echoed through the halls as we were dragged away by four disgruntled officers. “Stop screaming you stupid little girl” I roar causing her to go silent in fear while tears continued to stream down her pathetic little face. As we passed the jury their disgusted glares…

Another way Mary Maloney is more devious is, she pretends to be shocked by Patrick's death. The text states,” if she found anything unusual or terrible when she got home, then it would be a shock and she would have to react with grief and horror”(Dahl 3). This quote shows Mrs.Maloney being devious because she pretends to be surprised so she wouldn`t get caught.Even though she killed him,…

I believe that Roald Dahl wants us to think Mrs. Maloney is a victim. I think this because in the story Mrs. Maloney looks to be a nice, kindhearted woman who is devoted to her husband, even though he would ignore her presence when she was speaking to him. "I think it's a shame," she said, "that when someone's been a policeman as long as you have, he still has to walk around all day long." He didn't answer. Although Mr. Maloney ignored his wife and was not interested in what Mrs. Maloney had to say she still continued to speak to him a respectful manner. When Mr. Maloney decided to tell Mary that he was leaving her for another woman she tried to deny his words in her mind. “And he told her. It didn't take long, four or five minutes at most, and she sat still through it all, watching…

Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters clearly did not have respect for the law. They both kept the evidence that Mrs. Wright killed her husband a secret. These two women put themselves in Mrs. Wright shoes. They understood why Mrs. Wright killed her husband. They both knew that if their husband had treated them the way Mr. Wright treated Mrs. Wright that they would have probably done the same thing. They also snuck Mrs. Wright things in prison that they were aware she was not suppose to have. “Mrs. Peters is governed by this dogma, until she remembers the silence in her own house after the death of one of her children. This memory produces a powerful bond between her and Minnie 's experience of isolation and loneliness, so powerful, indeed, that Mrs. Peters herself attempts to hide the box with the dead canary in it—fully aware that this action goes against everything society and her husband expect her to do, not only on legal grounds but also because, as a wife, Mrs. Peters is not supposed to act against her husband” (Brown 2011 ). These two women were not close to Mrs.Wright but illegally hid evidence in this case in her favor.…

Mary Maloney changes drastically after hearing the horrible news that Patrick has given her. Her first reaction is definetly not what we expect from a pregnant wife who just found out that her husband wants a divorce. She acts as if nothing has changed, like a normal night in after her husband has come home. She still fusses about him after she was told. As she heads down to the freezer is the changing point, as she thinks things through it dawns on her what's actually going to happen. "Everything was automatic now." Proving that she was not herself, she gets the lamb without any emotion showing. When she swung the leg of lamb, she had still remained calm.…

It was almost three o’clock in the afternoon when I was awakened from my nap by the noise of a black Honda Accord driving up the long cement driveway leading to the garage. My boyfriend’s mother closed the car door and began to walk slowly toward me. “Sarah, I need to talk to you.” I knew immediately that this was not going to be one of our regular, carefree conversations. Patricia took a seat on the lounger beside me, and quietly laid a ticking bomb into my hands. “I’ve been talking to Big Dad, and Brennan will lose his trust fund if you are not married before this baby comes.” I can only imagine how distorted my face appeared when she said this. Confusion and shock hardly described what I felt. I quickly rearranged my face and regained my composure in order to mask the terror that hid in the pit of my stomach.…
