Summary

Argos is the leader of retail industry in the UK and Ireland. Except food, it has covered almost all kinds of products. Various channels of selling、its own brands、cheap price strategy、unique sale mode are main reasons for its success. China is chosen as the target country because China is a potential market ,which has big population 、area and increasing GDP. And Chongqing is chosen as target market because since it became municipality, its economy has been increasing fast.Besides,it is the biggest municipality in China and the only integrated transportation hub in the east of China, and people there are many different places and therefore it is easy for them to accept new things, which make Chongqing a potential market.
The market strategy of Argos will be based on compelling customer offer、digital leadership and accelerating multi-channel、product leadership and exclusive brands. Argos is popular in the UK and Ireland because it is easy for customer to get almost anything they want through its multi channels.For Argos, working with suppliers and manufacturing its own products make its products unique and cheaper ,as well as make it hard for customers to compare its products with others in the market,which is beneficial for cultivating customers’ loyalty.Besides, digital technology saves its place and therefore cut down the cost.
The market in China is different from in the UK.Chinese get used to physically touching products before they buy them.But it is hard for them to judge the quality of products online,also,the delivery system in China is still quite weak.Under this circumstances, the advantages of Argos are having more reliable products than e-retailers and cheaper than window shops . What is more, the trend of retail industry is the combination of online and offline(O2O),so if Argos can do good advertising and promotion , make Chinese accept the new way of shopping, then there is a big chance to win.

    They are stricken with local, state, and national regulations that make it very difficult to achieve efficiencies. In China, the value-creating supply chain model from the US will not work. National infrastructure cannot handle the amount of travel required by Wal-Mart trucks and the roadways that can, charge as much as 10% of truck value in fees. Also, the extremely large Chinese population is broken into severely distinct demographics. In the small “one horse towns” Wal-Mart would usually target, customers cannot even afford a bottle of shampoo and only buy day-to-day necessities. In Larger cities, the distribution of wealth is still enormous but customers shop for items on a whim. The Chinese people will visit stores as much as every day and usually buy very little, if at all. The intense competition of local and international chains makes the market very difficult and local protectionism decreases returns for foreign investors. With very little to incentivize associates, Wal-Mart is unable to effectively create the US culture that emanates in all aspects of operations. Wal-Mart cannot keep costs down and deliver best value to the Chinese consumer because of a combination of issues outside of their control.
