Leadership roles require responsibility. Responsibility is defined in Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary as something that should be done because it is morally right and legally required. ("Define Responsibility," ) Marketing management is the responsibility, not only to manage others, but to be creative in obtaining and sustaining customers and providing worth to the customer. (Kotler & Keller, 2012) Corporate responsibility is the actual ethics of a business, of which the business is responsible ethically to the public, its shareholders and everyone else. In the book of Joshua, God has called upon him to complete the task that was originally given to Moses, to lead the people of Israel to the Promised Land. Joshua had a massive task and he felt weak and inadequate as the stress of his task began to weigh on him. Joshua gained his strength after God spoke to him on three different occasions (verses 6, 7 and 9) to be strong and courageous.
Corporate responsibility deals with the courage of an organization to articulate its plan of action to meet their target customer’s needs and wants. Marketing managers must have the courage to follow the directions presented to them and to gain the trust of their staff members in order to get the job done. (Potocan & Mulej, 2013) They accepted Joshua’s leadership and followed him. Followers look to see whether a leader is courageous before they’ll fully accept that person’s leadership. 15:22 NKJ) Obedience parallels itself with accountability. Organizations have a responsibility, not only to their employees, customers and shareholders, but to the government. Obedience to the law demonstrates if the organization is willing to perform as they are morally and legally obligated. As a marketing manager, one has to be liable for what they have done and have to do. Through his studying of the law and learning from Moses, Joshua was taught to obey God at an early age. He heard God’s command in verse 7, “…obey all the laws Moses gave you. Do not turn away from them, and you will be successful in everything you do.” In Joshua 1:9, he heard God’s voice again “have not I commanded thee?...” Joshua obeyed God and through that obedience, he led the people of Israel to the Promised Land.
Being in a management position is a “called” position just like Joshua; everyone is not designed for such a position. However, those that accept the calling must be willing to fulfill the responsibilities that come with it. As marketing managers, there will be days when the task before you becomes overwhelming.     Never again was there a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face (Deuteronomy 34:10). In the Old Testament, we witness the divinity and righteousness of the most faithful man to ever serve the Lord. Moses’ relationship with God was superior to that of any other prophet in the Bible. God reinforces this by claiming that out of all of His prophets, Moses was the most faithful and therefore, was given the most power (Numbers 12:6-7). Chosen to protect and lead the Israelites, Moses performed miracles and glorified God’s name, ultimately playing a crucial role in spreading His authority throughout the known earth.
