TECHNOLOGY AS A PART OF OUR GLOBALIZATION (Great Contribution towards English Proficiency)

A Term Paper as a Partial Fulfillment of the subject English IV

Presented by:
Yza N. Ambrocio

As we all know, Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world. Technology has been a great contribution in what we called globalization. Technology can be defined as the socialized knowledge of producing goods and services
It is the best equipment to compete globally. Through technologies, we can be able to differentiate the developed countries from underdeveloped countries. People around the world are more connected to each other than ever before. Information and money flow quicker than ever. Products produced in one part of a country are available to the rest of the world. It is much easier for people to travel, communicate and do business internationally. Technology is perceived to be the key to sustainable development. It’s also a sign for developing countries in moving towards improvements and achieving ones goals. One aspect of globalization that tends to be most apparent in almost every facet of life is the emergence of technology particularly the way in which technology is globally integrating the peoples of the world.
Despite widespread usage and availability of new technology, it affects both social and cultural development of nation states. It also affects the everyday life of every one of us. This is because if it were not for technology our work would not be as efficient or productive. New technologies and innovations became our necessities and we cannot live without them now that they have been introduced in our lives. Invention is a gale of creative destruction, and those gales lead to changes in the economy and then in society. Old inventions are being replaced by new inventions that are easier to use and that are safe. Jacques Ellul thinks we have lost our freedom to technology and that we are being dehumanized. Instead with the advancement in technology, we have more freedom to choose and decide what technology to use for certain tasks.
In our modern days, technology is widely used by both young and old. However, technologies can affect the behavior of every individual specially the youth. Technology changes nothing to everything without it we cannot do impossible things. Technology is knowledge, production and a change. Technology is production because we need to produce things that are related to our everyday needs and wants. It improves and actually develops our capacity to produce goods and services. Technology is knowledge because nowadays new technologies are developed through research studies in different universities. And Lastly Technology is a change because without technology there’s no actual change in every countries economic status, and imagine if there is no technology involved in our life, we might still be in those old ages.
Every great technology we are now using has its own good and bad effect on every individual. These great things help us get through our everyday life; from your home to school there is still technology. Technology has advanced in such a way that even people who are current with technology feel at times that they are outdated. From telephones that are portable to being able to send an actual machine rover to another planet such as Mars, we have seen an explosion of technology. Mainly all these benefits are technological advances which benefit our way of living. I can recall growing up and having to call my parents to ask for permission to go to a friend's house. I had to first find a public telephone and make sure I had enough coins to place the call. Now days to communicate we no longer have to pull over from the road and look for a public phone because the innovative cellular phone facilitates our life. Another example of how technology has advanced to our benefit is when going to the movies. It is true that technology is everywhere.
Technology has many positive aspects but, in the wrong hands, it can become dangerous. In general, I feel that technology bring us more harm than good. The main harmful effect of technology is “pollution”. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Earth and its environment. There are few types of pollutions- air, water, land and noise. These few types of pollution can bring a lot of harm to the environment. For example, air pollution. It is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm. Technology is a valuable tool but is somewhat misused by today’s teens. The two main forms of technology affecting teenagers are cell phones and the Internet it have brought about major changes in our lifestyle. This technology has allowed teens to have inane communications and in doing so, contributes to the ‘dumbing down’ of society. We spend more time corresponding with our friends on cell phones and the Internet than we do working or participating in activities which expand and challenge our minds. Our fixation with technology makes us oblivious to the social implications. Teens today are lacking basic social skills because of an absence of face-to-face communication assisted by this technology. On average, a teenager uses his or her cell phone more than 100 times per week. Technology is becoming an addiction. Today’s youth crave instant satisfaction, and our desires are met by broadband Internet and text messaging. Our society no longer has time or the need to have a good old sit down and a chin wag. We can communicate via intricate networks and satellites. The art of personal communication is being lost as it gives way to a new era of interaction. The introduction of cell phones and the Internet has challenged our notions of space and time by putting communications into hyper drive.
And as of now, I therefore concluded that without technology our life wouldn’t be easier as before. Technology benefits everything, eventhough it take a lot of bad effects in our living it also can make us beneficiary of these new machines that are improved through time. And we must face changes in this generation of new and improved technology. We must all know that technology gave a lot of contribution in globalization, until now.

The film “The Story of Us” that we have watched last week gave me the full of insights and learned how difficult a marriage could be. This movie was about the story of a couple married for about fifteen years and from their perfect marriage, it almost ends up to divorce. They decided to send their children to a summer camp so they can start their trial separation before telling it to their kids. In the end, because they still love each other and also for the best of their children, they had chosen to be strong and set aside all the detestation and hatred from them.…

Globalization is a process that integrates all the nations around the world, by the unification of global economy with the worldwide exchange of products and services (David, 2002). With that unification, the other matters, such as politics, technology, capital, labor force and culture, all have to undergo a international interaction and fusion. The rapid developments of information and telecommunication technology in recent years, as well as the construction of infrastructure like transportation, have promoted and accelerated the globalization process by connecting people more closely and compressing the time and space for communication. As a result, the nations are becoming more closely interdependent in today’s world. The four basic aspects of globalization identified by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) in 2000 includes: the trade and transactions cross borders, capital flow and investment, international migration of people and spread of knowledge.…
