“Come away. There’s going to be trouble. And we’ve had our meat.”
Dialogue pondering the effect of suspense from the readers because Golding foreshadowed that something troublesome would happen soon.

“There was a blink of bright light beyond the forest and the thunder exploded again so that a littlun started to whine. Big drops of rain fell among them making individual sounds when they struck.”
Golding emphasized on the nature in the paragraph. He used imagery to bring out the lively scene. As the weather turns bad, Golding foreshadows that the unfortunate events are approaching soon. The stormy weather created a negative atmosphere to the environment.

“Going to be a storm,” said Ralph, “and you’ll have rain like when we dropped here. Who’s clever now? Where are your shelters? What are you going to do about that?”

Rhetorical questions were asked. Through the questions, Golding’s intention is to show that Ralph believes he would make a better leader than Jack.

“A wave of restlessness set the boys swaying and moving aimlessly.”
“The littluns began to run about, screaming.”
Golding used the weather as a symbol of fear. From these two sentences, Golding tells us the mental state of the boys on the demanding nature. It also shows how the strong waves could affect the behavior of the boys. Golding suggests that nature can destruct humankind easily, no matter how tough oneself can be.

“Piggy and Ralph, under the threat of the sky, found themselves eager to take a place in this demented but partly secure society.”
Golding presented the optimistic behavior of Piggy and Ralph around the island and that the threats of the sky does not affect them. Golding used “Demented” to describe the established society within the boys, the word has strong emphasis on the hunters’ crazy attitude for the passion of

First of all, the government doesn’t always protect the patriot and defend the patriot the same way the patriot does for the Government. This is evident in numerous moments in American history and it is also shown all throughout the novel,\ “Lord of the Flies”. Simon was a very devoted and efficient member of the island community. He often listens and follows what Ralph and Piggy say. Although, this sense of loyalty and trust that Simon had toward Ralph ultimately lead to his demise. One of the major issues that the community of children had in the island was the constant fear of the beastie, an imaginary monster that lives in the jungle, that cause the “Littluns” to have nightmares. Simon finds out there isn’t a beast, instead it was a dead skydiver. He runs back to inform everyone that there is no beast but his community turns on him and kills him (quote). When the oldest of the community realize what they have done, they covered up his death by dragging his body into the sea and convince the littluns that he was the beast by saying "I expect the beast disguised himself”. Simon died trying to help his community,…

Good imagery not only produces a strong image in the readers' minds but also stimulates associations. Robinson's imagery produces a strong impression about Miniver Cheevy's character, especially Cheevy's frustrations with life. In the first stanza, Robinson presents the image of an unsatisfied person who "grew lean while he assailed the seasons." The phrase "grew lean" creates an image of someone losing too much weight. To complain or fight against the seasons (weather) reinforces this image of unrest or frustration, for the weather has rarely been tamed for long. Thus, in this opening stanza the reader gets an initial image of Cheevy as a frustrated loser who may lack common sense.…

They are the ones that are presented to be “the good guys”. Similarly, in Dittmann’s article it shows that previously innocent people are turned to violence when introduced to peer pressure. It causes them to act in a way that they normally would not act. Piggy and Ralph are characters in the book, always trying to keep order and make sure that everyone is pitching in and doing what they are supposed to. They are the ones that work the hardest to try and get off the island. When the island splits into two groups, Piggy and Ralph vs. Jack and the hunters, they decide to go try and talk to the other group. At first, they are horrified by the savage ways of this other group, but as the night wears on they “[find] themselves eager to take a place in this demented but partly secure society. They [are] glad to touch the brown backs of the fence that hemmed in the terror and made it governable” (Golding 2). This “demented but partly secure society” was one that played games about killing a pig. They made chants about killing and blood, and Piggy and Ralph want to be a part of it. They are put in a bad situation, everyone there was a bit scared, the group “hemmed with terror” and Piggy and Ralph were no different. For a moment their fears were not noticed. Golding uses language to describe this “fence” of boys that makes them feel secure. Having everyone around them doing the same thing made the fear not so prevalent. Even when they know that this is not something that they should partake in, it made them feel safe. This depicts that a bad situation can turn people into someone they are not. Similarly, in Dittmann’s article, the Stanford Prison Experiment was explained and investigated in great detail. Many psychologists found that “institutional forces and peer pressure led normal student volunteer guards to disregard the potential harm of their actions on…

Victor, depressed after the deaths of William and Justine for which he feels responsible for, heads to the mountains. “A cold… breeze… upon my cheeks … fills me with delight” is a shortened quote from Victor which expresses his feelings towards nature as a joyous one. The influence of nature on mood is evident throughout the novel and just like Victor feeling happy in the embrace of nature; the monster also feels his heart lighten as spring arrives after a being abandoned in the cold winter. “The weather became fine and the skies cloudless”.…

The setting described in the first paragraph prepares the reader for a dark, uncomfortable story. "Early that day the weather turned and the snow was melting into dirty water." All of the elements in the setting outside the house are used symbolically towards something inside the house. This shows that something good or pure ("snow" or relationship), is turning into something ugly ("dirty water" or separation), and it is happening fast ("early that day").…

Anthony I like the examples of imagery you present to back up your claim of nice weather as a symbol in the short story, The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck. The use of “fog of winter” and “painting in her flower garden” contrast her facial features such seen through the excellent imagery examples of her face provide “Elisa face as lean and strong “ and “her eyes was as clear as water”. This provides the reader likemyself a visual images that allow me to contrast the nice weather and her beauty and recognize how nature to its self is beautiful just like Elisa. I also think that by following up with other examples of this throughout the story like when Elisa meets the man and how he help her recognize this beauty through the way he addresses…

In conclusion, Samuel Taylor Coleridge reflects the Ancient Mariner’s change of character and the theme of respecting nature, through the use of shifting symbolism in the eyes, the albatross, and the sun. Firstly, the eye is used as a tool of observation, judgement, and punishment. Secondly, the albatross portrays the caring and vengeful side of nature. Lastly, the shifting symbolism of the sun from aid to punishment back to aid coincides with the changes of the Mariner’s character, fitting with the theme of respecting nature. In today’s society respecting nature is still an important factor of everyday life. The forces of nature produce oxygen, food, water, and shelter needed for the basis of human survival. Global warming is a current threat…

Farther on in the chapter when the storm finally breaks, a very menacing atmosphere is created. The tension keeps rising throughout the passage as it nears the death of Simon- though the build up of events and grotesque descriptions of the boys' actions and the environment around them. One of the ways in which Golding depicts a menacing atmosphere is through consistent and vivid descriptions; for example, when the boys have "a wave of restlessness" that made them "swaying and moving aimlessly". Here, the author is using the verb 'swaying' and the verb 'aimlessly' which are both associated with the wind to describe the boys' movement. Consequently, this is a surprisingly powerful effect given as it makes the boys' seem as if a supernatural force…
