1. Introduction
Companies nowadays cannot operate without taking into consideration of laws and regulations governing their conduct. In an era where environmental issues and ethics are key policy decisions it is only prudent that companies be in the forefront of implementing these practices. Since logistics are at the heart of the operation of modern transport systems and implies a degree of organization control over freight movements that only modern technology could have brought into being. The big question is how evolving trends in logistics bring issues of environmental and ethical concern.

Environmental issues have been in the forefront for every company thus the emergence of green logistics. Green logistics is the supply chain management practices and strategies that reduce the environment and energy footprint of freight distribution. It focuses on material handling, waste management, packaging and transport which are major issues in logistics, (Banister, D. and Button K., 1993). Traditional logistics was more of outward activities but due to environmental consideration it opened up markets for recycling and disposal and opened new sectors named reverse logistics.

In material handling, the issue of how to handle hazardous material within the firm can and will arise. How are the people directly involved in material handling protected from the effects of such material including the storage of such material? An example is how to handle radiation material in hospitals that treat cancerous patients. The kind of personnel should have training to avoid errors associated with material handling. In matters packaging the main concern is environment friendly packaging for example in Kenya emphasis is biodegradable packaging with the increase of plastic packaging that is choking the environment, (Chiellini, E. and Solaro, R., 2003).When it comes to transportation issues like emissions and safety measures regarding transporting hazardous products, for example the British Petroleum oil spill brought forth serious environmental concerning petroleum products transportation, (Johnsson, P. 2008).
