Listening Analysis Empathetic Listening
Listening Analysis 1 The test was divided into three individual sections. The sections were as follows; empathetic listening, active listening, and preparing to listen. In taking the assessment listed above altogether, I scored a 52 out of 70. According to the assessment, I obtain great listening skills. Listening gives you the ability to learn about new things and new people. The better at listening you are, the more productive you will be in your career and more opportunities will come to you. Those who are most skilled at listening are able to better understand work they have been given, as well as what is expected of them. Those who are unable to listen well, on the other hand, have a much more difficult time trying to accomplish different …show more content…
Being an empathetic listener is important in both personal and professional relationships, not only because of the relational consequences that you may suffer from not showing empathy but also because people are valuable and simply need to be treated as important. Sometimes people are just too busy to demonstrate empathetic listening, or perhaps one has simply never considered what it means to be a good listener. Either way, the consequences of not being an empathetic listener can be devastating. Personal relationships can suffer or ultimately end. Professional relationships can suffer causing distrust, decreased productivity, and poor …show more content…
There are a few things that I know I need to work on. I had the chance of looking up the “HURIER MODEL”. I know that throughout this class without even taking the correct assessment I need to work on understanding, interpreting, and remembering. Depending on what the subject that is being discussed I have difficulty interpreting the underlying message and understanding the concept. With all the added distractions I now have in my life it has gotten even more difficult for me to remember. I hope by the end of this semester I have improved these skills. Being a single mom these three skills go a long way especially with the relationship I have with my daughter’s father and I know these are the three areas I need to work on. So I can prosper in any relationship work or non- work

For Aural, I scored a 9. I do prefer to listen to others as far as opinions and suggestions. For example, having a group project is not an easy task online. In my last class, there was an organized chat room where all students were able to verbally talk to each other via skype or telephone. It was a lot easier to get points through compared to email and text messaging. By verbally listening you can give your opinion right away and get quick feedback and ultimately getting the project done with every one agreeing to the final outcome. With 9 being a high score for Aural I don’t completely agree with the score. It is…

We watched a video clip of Carl Rogers where he is describing and explaining what understanding empathy means to him. From this clip, I learnt quite a lot and I definitely feel that I understanding the meaning of empathy more. To be empathic to a client, you must understand the position they’re in by trying to put yourself in their shoes. You can do this by asking them questions in order for you to understand. If you don’t ask questions then you will automatically make assumptions. I’ve learnt that trying to put yourself into someone else’s world is a key element to empathy and unless you actively listen, you are not going to be able to respond empathically.…

My score was 45 out of 75. The assessment score indicates that I am not as good of a listener as I think I am. The area I need to focus on is learning how to be more attentive when listening. It also says that I need to focus more on a person when they are talking and allow them to finish their ideas without interruption.…

I began my career in social work, a profession built almost entirely on one’s ability to listen and empathize with those who need help. As a leader, I practice the strategies of empathic listening, working diligently to understand what others are saying. I realize that most of what my followers say comes from their non verbals and their tone, rather than their actual words. Before offering a solution or opinion, I ensure that I understand what they are really saying and try to see the issue from their point of view.…

Listening is the way we hear someone or something. Effective listening requires us to hear more of what someone is saying instead of just hearing what they are saying. When we are listening effectively, it means we are not letting anything distract us from paying attention to what the person is saying and understanding them verbally and nonverbally. Speaking in a way that one understands and making sure we are listening affectively will help the worker to better understand and able to help the client when needed.…

The listening quiz revealed that my listening effectiveness is extremely poor and my score was less than 4 (Always). I am very surprised and sadden about my score and ability to listen effective because I really felt that I am a good listener. I really didn’t want to admit that I agree with what the quiz reveals about me, but deep down in my heart I know that the quiz is somewhat true. I know this because of the conversations in which I have had with my children and friends. My oldest son tells me all the time that I don’t listen and I only hear what I want…
