Being kind to others, listening to people , seeing others as basically good and being respectful of other people feelings have helped me in my interpersonal skills with people and also make an impact on someone else life. I was touched recently when I discovered that one of my employees was homeless and during this difficult time in her life I was observing a change in her attendance and productivity. I did meet with her and did realize that there was some underlying issues in her life and give her time to make adjustments without being very punitive in my approach. It was after this issue was resolved that she personally thanked me for my patience and humanistic approach in dealing with this

The Life Styles Inventory survey is a very fascinating way in which one can think of one’s way of actually becoming a constructive leader. The constructive slice is quite an alluring piece of the pie which is where most people would like to be at. But then again, due to actions in life and the work place this may not be the case. One may experience a more higher level in passive / defensive or aggressive / defensive styles which would need more work on to obtain the a better outcome from the survey.…

Human behavior is a perplex issue and is most often influenced by culture, religion, education, value systems, ethnic and other factors. Individuals often know what drives there particular styles but unless studied they may not know what their strengths and weaknesses actually are. The LSI survey identifies three specific styles of behavior; constructive, passive/defensive and aggressive/defensive styles. I completed the survey and it identified my highest percentile score and personal thinking style according to my circumplex is both Humanistic-Encouraging and Affiliative. I received identical scores for my primary thinking style – 38% Raw Score and 93% Percentile Score. The raw score is a range from 0 to 40 and the percentile score represents my results compared to 9,207 individuals who previously the LSI survey (Human Synergistics). My back-up and second highest score was identified as Achievement with a Raw score of 39% and a percentile score of 95%. Lastly, my limiting style and lowest score is Avoidance, with a raw score of 5% and a percentile score of 50%. Humanistic-Encouraging, Affiliative, and Achievement styles are all constructive styles, while avoidance is a passive-defensive thinking style. After completing the survey and reviewing the results I do think that the survey is very accurate in assessing my thinking styles.…

My secondary thinking style is the Self-Actualizing Style. This style is manifested in both my professional and personal lives. In my professional life, I continually strive to grow and always look for new ways to challenge myself. An example of this is that I am currently attending Graduate school yet still plan on trying to get several certificates to help compliment my education. At work, I always try to find the most efficient way to complete my job duties and tend to get annoyed when I feel I am not doing something productive. I know myself very well and take pride in that. I know what I can handle at work and in my personal life and I know what I can’t. I hardly ever commit to something I feel I can’t do. In my personal life, I value knowing myself and have a very good handle on my self-worth.…

Brian was mildly trepid about viewing the results of the Life Styles Inventory he had taken. Perhaps because his thinking and behavior were never charted he was nervous to see the results; or maybe he was worried that an objective view of his thinking style would reveal more about his personality than he was comfortable revealing. Whatever the reason, he was intrigued by the results. The results revealed things about him he didn’t know, confirmed suspicions of personality traits, encouraged changes to negative style trends, and otherwise provided a surprisingly accurate assessment of his thinking and behavioral styles.…

The life styles inventory is a survey of questions that help us to gain an insight into our own personality and what type of behaviors we exert to others as individuals. It helps us to look at the positive and negative qualities of our personalities and ways to improve upon them. A look at my LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being shy to express myself. It also states that as things become more threatening to me the more I tend to avoid those situations. These thinking styles are linked to feelings of denying responsibility for my own behavior, feelings of guilt whether they are realistic or not. I also have a fear of general failure in almost everything I do. I am also mainly concerned about myself and my feelings and thoughts. These characteristics are manifested in my life because of my thinking pattern and although I know they are not good characteristics to have, somehow I have become entangled in them. My main problem is my withdrawal from almost everything I do and the inability to express my feelings and be comfortable around others. I somehow find myself threatened by others and tend to keep my feelings to myself. I also seem to have a lot of guilt for my behavior whenever something goes wrong in my personal life. There is also a general fear in almost everything I do and a lack of disclosure about myself which eventually leads to emotional isolation from my peers.…

My "backup" thinking style was not quite as profound, but it turned out to be “perfectionistic”. This trait ranked in the 69th percentile with a score of 23 out of a potential 40. This trait was not as profound for a few reasons. The first reason is that I desire affiliation much more than I do in perfection. I believe the sole source of success is in the communication and interaction with people, however you also have to maintain a strict philosophy for your work and attitude by carrying some perfectionistic traits. Even if an individual is the socialite of the 21st century but is…

In addition to understanding and discovering our personality types I also had to have the appreciation as to what our learning styles were in order to later best decide how to continue with the development. Using ‘Honey & Mumford’s’ self development tool (The learning styles questionnaire) again, both myself and team member answered the series of yes/no questions in order to give us results of where our answers matched four learning styles found within Honey & Mumford’s cycle (Activist, Reflector, Theorist & Pragmatist). Based on how our answers matched each style a graph was drawn to plot our learning style profile that when matched with a preference table we could easily match where our preferences leaned towards.…

As previously stated I work for a private school that provides housing and education for children that come from poverty. Leviticus 25:35 says, “If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you.” (NIV). While this verse specifically refers to Israelites, I believe this applies to our everyday lives and is the attitude I express every day. By interacting and supporting these children on a daily basis I feel as though I am playing positive role in their lives. Not only by the school providing them with the opportunity, but by approaching interactions with them in an image of God teaches them a lesson that will give them tools to live a productive life. Proverbs 22:6 further supports this notion, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (NIV). Showing respect and manners when interacting with children can provide them with invaluable tools as they progress through their lives. It would be irresponsible to interact with these children any other way. By conversing with them in a way that sets a positive example I feel as though I am lifting their spirits in…

My “primary” personal thinking style as shown in my circumplex is The Humanistic-Encouraging Style. This style means that I am “accepting of myself, and accept others for who they are without question or criticism” (Human 2010). Humanistic-Encouraging individuals believe they can “assist others in fulfilling their potential by providing a supportive climate that inspires self-improvement” (Human 2010). I believe that this very accurate summation of myself. This can easily be seen at my previous job as a waiter. I was often asked to train new employees because I was considered sensitive to people 's needs, and was willing to devote energy to counseling and coaching others. I also consider this style accurate about my myself because during my time as a Kohls retail shift manager, I tried to inspire my coworkers to think, grow and take responsibility for themselves by demonstrating belief in what my coworkers could accomplish. I always tried to believe when a subordinate told me that they could accomplish setting up a display in a certain amount of hours. My “backup” personal thinking style is The Competitive Style. I believe my backup style of being competitive is what pushes me to be all I can be. Competition is my motivation to succeed. I think I have developed this style by the environment I grew up in. As a child, my friends and I had races to see who could run the fastest, hop scotch competitions, and contests for the best cheerleading routines. Sports also played a major part in my competitiveness. I was motivated to do my very best in everything I did and winning a game always got you a trophy and/or a pizza party afterwards. In the workforce, competition is also used. At my previous job, prizes were given for the individual that took the most phone calls, received the lowest average handle time, etc. The benefits of my healthy competition in the workplace help me produce greater results and better quality of work. I…
