Leonardo Da Vinci: The Statue Of Verrocchio
At the age of twenty, the painters’ guild of Florence offered Leonardo membership, but da Vinci turned it down to continue working with Verrocchio until he was twenty-six. Around 1482, da Vinci began to paint his first commissioned work, The Adoration of the Magi, for Florence’s San Donato. However, da Vinci never completed that piece because he relocated to Milan to work for the Sforza clan. The Sforza family had planned for Leonardo to create a magnificent 16-foot-tall statue to honor the dynasty’s founder, Francesco Sforza. After 12 years, the statue was complete and ready to display. However, imminent war after the Sforza duke fell from power in 1499, left the statue broken in pieces never to be fixed.
