I. Legends on the net: an examination of computer mediated Communication as a locus of oral culture by JAN FERNBACK ,Temple University

Thanks to the technological advance and the new dimension that development brings to people; our entire cultural heritage, especially the oral one has entered the world of computers. This is considered to be a great interest since it helps to preserve this very crucial part of our culture. But this oral tradition is easily exposed to danger, for the greatest part. We can say that it is not registered. So, researchers, anthropologists, sociologists, linguists, among others, endeavored and strived to find an appropriate device to store this rich type of culture in order to avoid evanescence. As a results, they found that computer is the suitable means which may resolve and suit their objective.
Nowadays, the presence of legends online underlies that this internet culture is flourishing and evolving in an ongoing state. However, this solution is seen most of the time not to undertake the responsibility of protecting this rich heritage. This is because the intelligent machine, computer, is exposed to damage due to viruses.
To overcome this problem, printing is seen to be the most trustworthy means to protect legends and all kind of our culture. Computer mediated communication is very effective too. This is because it may display all elements of oral as well as textual communication. Chat rooms play an essential role in exchanging oral culture but sometimes chatters may alter intentionally or unintentionally the meaning of certain items, which threatens the existence of such literacy fortune. The dimension of orality online, evident in communal interaction in chat rooms, built in boards, and text-based virtual environment, can promote the exchange of folklore through feeling of being there among participant (Langham, 1994).
In conclusion, we can say that urban legends have found their place in nearly all kinds of media. This may

    Legends on the net by Jan Fernback, he argues that the oral cultural has been changed from past to contemporary. He says that, orality and literacy becomes less important because of human develop the cyberspace. Today, in our society people need to use internet because we are using it everywhere and it becomes part of our culture. In addition, the author says that, oral tradition has been warning for community living. Fernaback agues that, urban legend as popular cultural texts. Folklore can make the people keep up to date with their cultural values, mores, and ethos. In cyberspace, there are different kinds of stories that are not true, and that is calling “tale story or urban legend”. Urban legend can be stop social chaos by reducing social anxiety, and it can clarify people’s natural heritage and impacts on public imagination with folklore. Mass media is the best way which can circulate urban legends and folklore. Urban legend and folklores are stories which can be transmitted orally, and has impact on our societies such as tainted Halloween candy. Fernback gives example of serious urban legends. For example, A child who had been poisoned by his father on Halloween and oranges in United Kingdom had been injected with mercury, and girl in school found pin inside her peanut butter cup. It is Anonymous, which means that story tellers can tell their own story in different ways, but involves the same ideas. Moreover, in cyberspace, tales of fired rates could effect negatively in our social media. If this issue had been analyzed via e-mail or internet, people know about it so they will believe easily. For the contemporary oral cultural, Internet (such as cyberspace), electronic media is dependent on oral culture.
