Learning Style Essay Rough Draft
The benefits of gaining knowledge about Learning Styles, and how to apply strategies that will enhance learning in many different capacities: Jaclyn K. Kaina INFT 101-B14 5/18/2013

While teaching a Father’s Day hula to ten women and three children, I noticed that each produced greater results when taught in a specific manner or learning style appropriate to them as individuals. The little ones learned best by copying each dance motion and repeating the verses until they could commit the dance to their memory. Two women decided to take a video of the dance and practice on their own; three women chose to write the steps down and practice against their notes, and the remaining women also chose to learn by copying and repeating the hula motions. Although each had their own unique way of learning the dance, the end result was an amazing worship hula performed in one specific way. It is evident that taking the time to gain knowledge about learning styles and how to apply strategies to enhance learning can greatly benefit individuals in many different learning capacities. In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some

Learning styles theory originated in the 1970’s and is based around the idea that people have preferences about how they like to learn. Theorists believe that each individual has a particular learning style that is best suited to them and allows them to collect and process information successfully in order to learn. The principle idea is that these learning style differ from one individual to the next and theorists argue that school teachers should incorporate these learning styles into their lessons so that student is catered for and everyone can learn effectively. Many educationalists believe that differences in learning styles are responsible for some student difficulties, for example, if a student is taught…

Before taking the Learning style Quiz I would have told you that I was a visual learner. I am better with written instructions more than I am with verbal. I love when I receive handouts and diagrams. After taking this quiz I have learned that I am more of a kinesthetic learner. I always have to be hands on and doing something. What I mean by this is when I am studying I am either moving in my chair or I am using my finger as a reading guide. I always thought that it was just my ADHD that made me do this but now I have learned that it is a way of learning.…

Throughout this project, the fact that I was aware of my learning style improved my contribution and performance to the group. Whilst working in my group, I had to improve my confidence and communication skills. Because of my preference in auditory learning,…

One of the most important learning styles that aides my learning process is the visual learning style. Saying that, this learning style allows me to understand and multi task two things at the same time to solve a challenging problem. For example, in mathematics I can be adding and subtracting double denominators and changing fractions at the same time. This learning style helps me grasp the content better and enables me to enjoy it. At times it is necessary to combine more than one learning style to obtain the objective and yield a positive outcome in the learning process. When reading any new material, identifying…

There are three main types of learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic. Once I had taken the …. test I was then fully aware of the fact that I was in fact a visual learner, this didn’t come as a surprise to me as I have always known that visual was one of my strongest methods as when taking notes, I often replaced words with symbols wherever possible and when I would write notes from class I’d use different fonts, bold print, and underlining to make the most important concepts and facts visually appealing. Visual learners learn best when information is presented in a written language format or in another visual format such as pictures or diagrams.…

Know the difference between learning styles and learning modalities.[1] Learning styles: what do we know?[2] What are learning styles?[3] Learning styles are simply the way a child learns best.[4] Learning styles theory says that there are different learning modalities and that individuals have a preferred modality.[5] A consequence of this theory is that effective teaching should present a variety of teaching methods which cover all three learning modalities so that different students have equal opportunities to learn in a way that is effective for them.[6] There are four learning styles that most people fit in to.[7] Students will often have a dominant learning style and a secondary learning style although in some rare cases, a child will show equal preference for two learning styles.[8] Of the four learning styles, the visual/verbal person will want to use color coding to help them retain information from books or notes.[9] The visual learning styles try motivating this learner via visual and non textual clues such as graphs, charts or media and assorted visuals such as a power point presentation or a general picture.[10] The second of the four learning styles is visual/non verbal.[11] The third of the four learning styles is tactile/kinesthetic.[12] [4] she explained that kinesthetic and tactile learning styles refer to activities such as knitting and running.[13] The last of the four learning styles is auditory/verbal.[14] Learning styles theory says that an auditory learner will learn things better when they are presented aurally.[15] Auditory learning stylestry using using jazz chants and sing-song approaches to introduce new vocabulary.[16] And, used creatively, multimedia tools can certainly stimulate creativity across many learning styles.[17] Many children have different learning styles, and thus need to be taught differently.[18] No one learning style works best for every student, and, in fact, most students learn using a variety of learning…
