Leading Class Reflection Report
Reflecting back on leading class discussion Wednesday, I thought it was a success for the most part. Dylan and I collaborated really well together, and we split the work up evenly which is always makes working with a partner so much more enjoyable. One thing I learned about collaboration from working with Dylan was compromise. Although there was no actual conflict, coming up with an idea for the actual discussion part was a lot of us throwing out ideas and listening to each others feedback. For instance, we were going to play Jeopardy as our discussion topic, but then we decided that might not get the class discussing how we liked. We finally compromised on the idea to have the class write on flashcards and pick one randomly to talk about. This played really well off of “The Lottery” …show more content…
I was very pleased with how willing the class was to jump right into talking about “The Lottery” and “The One Who Walked away From Omelas”. It definitely made being up in front of everyone more enjoyable. One thing I learned from the large class discussion and from observing in previous classes, is that I think everyone is more willing to talk about their thoughts if we get into groups first to build on our thoughts and hear others perspectives. I think this is especially crucial on some of the more challenging short stories that could have several different themes or meanings. With this knowledge in mind, Dylan and I agreed it would be a good idea to do small groups before brining it the class together for one big discussion. I think we were successful in that aspects of the discussion. However, if I could go

As this is one of my favorite classes, I can remember several lessons that were entertaining this past year. One of the first materials that come to mind is when we did the presentations about whatever we wanted. A recent topic, I enjoyed was reading The Crucible as a class. I also recall finding Edgar Allen Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" amusing but slightly disturbing. The element I enjoy most about PowerePoints is researching the information. Although presenting them is something I am not inclined to doing, being allowed to select the subject of the PowerPoint was especially pleasing to me. Reading The Crucible as a class was surprisingly highly entertaining to me. I considered the various people’s perspectives, reading the lines…

My analysis is on the film The Goonies. While I view the movie and determine the various norms, behaviors, roles and interaction between group members, as well as individuals the examination within the realm of film can present many of the same components. Thus, our group selected this movie to analyze based on its formation of a cohesive problem-solving group full of unforgettable characters. The Goonies portray many different theories and aspects of small group communication.…

I would draw on the feedback received from my peer evaluation form and my own reflections to make the following changes: I will include a more formal reflective discussion at the end of the session to encourage…

Pre-O helped me transition because it helped me make friends before classes started. While everyone else were attempting to make new friends the students of Pre-O already formed bonds and found friends. It also helped me become familiar with the campus. The rest of the incoming freshmen were struggling during orientation because they didn't have the advantage that we did. They asked us all types of questions such as 'Where is Modlin?', 'What is the quickest way to get back to the dorms?', and so on. All in all, it was just a nice feeling to be able to knowledgeable and not have to struggle with new surroundings.…

    Math Journal

I think reflection in this course has been the one component that sets it apart from any other math class I have taken. Even Math 105 last semester had a lot of reflection and the reflection aspect of both classes was incredibly helpful. I have never actually thought about math before. Usually I am just taught they formulas and how to use them. It was rare that a teacher really showed me why a formula worked. In this class, I was challenged to really think about what I was learning and how I would teach it to students so that they would truly understand it. I think reflecting on what I did each week was a great way to insure that I actually remember what I learned instead of forget it all by the next semester. In the presentation, I really liked the quote “A journal becomes a place where you can dump all your daily frustrations and joys, without fear of judgment and criticism.” This seems great to me because I know teaching can be a trying profession. There will be days wen I will feel horrible and frustrated. I think these are the perfect times to have journals. It enables you to get everything out of your system without having to tell an actual person what you are feeling. When you are dealing with kids, people can sometimes be overly judgmental when you feel frustrated about your students. Another part of the presentation that I thought was great was the part that talked about using a journal to write down the funny things a student did or said. I love to hear about the odd things I used to say and do when I was in elementary student from my old teachers. I want to record things that I think my students will like to hear about when they are older. Overall, I really believe having a journal and reflecting on your day is such a positive thing. Not only does it provide a stress relief, but reflecting on the details of your day is supposed to have great effects on your memory as well.…

One more good point is how the class was taught, which made it a better class. Professor Belz made the class extremely emotional and humoristic especially when the readings where explained. Moreover, this made the readings easier to understand and more attractive for the students. Even though the class was early in the morning, professor Bellz kept the lecture alive at all times. In fact, I never lost interest or even stopped listening to the lecture because the way it was imparted. In addition, the class period was short and this made it better because I had the time to do…

This was very interesting to watch. Their routine was to come in the class get settled and a student goes to the “Helping Hands” board and read off the assignment duties for the week. In regards to the rules, they knew to raise their hands to be recognized by the teacher. Should a student finish their work ahead of everyone they are to get additional work out of the remediation box. The thing that was truly amazing was they would cheer for their fellow classmates and say “good job and/or goog try”. They were very encouraging towards each other.…
