In many organizations leadership is the key to a company success, and many companies find out the hard way that managers do not always demonstrate the abilities to be leaders. Managers who do not demonstrate these abilities are individuals, who have been given a hierarchy position, follow the “corporate code” and do not think outside the box. Also, “managers with the best intentions in the world often flub opportunities to get invaluable feedback from subordinates. Managers may send unintentional messages that they’re too busy to be bothered, not respond to subtle hints, or simply fail to schedule regular feedback opportunities” (Ashford University edition, 2007, p.30). Many managers fail to realize that to be a great leader you must have followers; your followers believe in you, and they want to succeed. In my years of being a manager I have worked for leaders that think they have all the answers and do not need the help of the people that work under them. I have seen that this may work for a little while but in the long run it tends to back fire on them and the company as a whole. This leads to what I feel a leader is and how the qualities of an effective leader are spread out through organizations.…

Dwight Eisenhower provided an excellent quotation on leadership; “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.” A leader is one who goes first or possesses authority to direct such as in a chief or commander. However, a leader cannot be defined singularly, nor can all the factors that produce a leader be measured tangibly. A manager is defined as one who handles, controls, or directs, especially one who directs a business or other enterprise. By definition, a leader and manager are similar and a manager is a leadership role in an organization. Leaders can be managers, but managers are not necessarily leaders. Managers that have a good foundation as positive leaders hold key attributes, such as effective communicators, integrity, trustworthiness, respect and credibility.…

Leaders set goals and new direction, challenging the status quo. They are visionaries and spearhead the team, motivating and leading them to reach this new direction. Managers on the other hand maintain the status quo, specializing on conformance to the standard, and managing teams and individuals around these boundaries that have already been established, systematizing and directing to achieve the task set. Management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals. Good managers do those things both effectively and efficiently. (Giang, V. (n.d.).…

Management and Leadership skills are very important to the world of industry. This is a true statement at Dal-Tile International. Dal-Tile is an international producer of tile products for home and commercial use. Dal-Tile produces tile by using a tunnel kiln and or a fast fire kiln. The tile body consists of ceramics, glaze, and quarry and can be used on walls, floors, bath areas and kitchen areas. Also the tile Dal-Tile produces can be used inside or outside and is seen in places such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Wal-Mart delis, Home Depot and Lowes. Dal-Tile produces tile in the United States and Mexico and sells to countries around the world such as China. To be able to coordinate, produce, ship, stay financially in budget, employ people and keep customers happy Dal-Tile must depend on its managers and leaders to take control of the goal, job or function that is set for that particular leader or manager. Managers and leaders can be two different people or can be one in the same. Both managers and leaders are working towards accomplishing a goal. More often than not the goals that managers and leaders are working toward are the same. There are times when managers and leaders are working towards different goals. This could happen when a manager is working towards a budget goal or an overall production number and the leader may be working on a daily production number or a cost savings measure.…
