Approximately 50-80% of adults worldwide suffer from low back pain (LBP) at least once during their lives 1,2, while 80% of Canadian adults suffer from LBP at least once during their lives 3. LBP represents a major health problem because of its prevalence, high probability of recurrence, impact on physical, emotional and mental health, and healthcare costs 4-7. Furthermore, LBP is the principle reason of absenteeism and disability worldwide 8. It is estimated that the care cost of LBP in Canada has ranged from $6 to $12 billion annually 9. LBP also has a social cost as a result from productivity loss (work absence) and “disability payments” 9.
There is growing awareness that LBP is a long-term condition and that self-management can decrease
