Aim:
To determine how the growth of duckweed is affected by the amount of light. To do so, we had 12 samples placed in varying levels of light; we used natural light which was near the window, high light on a window sill with constant light on it and for low light we put the samples in a drawer. (There could’ve been a problem with the

Conclusion:
Before we conducted our experiment, we hypothesized that the natural light environment would be the best place for frond growth. After observing the cups from all of the different light environments, we conclude that the fitting environment for the duckweed is natural light but it doesn’t thrive in natural light but it lives linger compared to the other duckweeds in different amounts of light considering the fact that it had the most number of living duckweed

The plants used in this experiment are called Wisconsin fast plants, due to their extremely short life cycle. In just 40 days, the plants germinate, grow, flower, and die, which makes them convenient to study in classroom experiments. They are members of the crucifer family and are related to other plants like broccoli and cabbage. In this experiment, 8 fast plant seeds were planted in a self-constructed bottle-growing system, and they were left to grow for 7-14 days. The Net Primary Productivity, or the amount of energy captured and stored by the fast plants, was calculated along with the flow of energy from the plants to cabbage white butterflies. These organisms are members of the Pieris Rapae family, and they feed on fast plants. The goal of this experiment is to observe the flow of energy in an ecosystem as it is transferred from the producers (Wisconsin fast plants), to primary consumers (butterfly larvae). This energy was kept track of by making sure all energy gained and lost by each organism was measured.…

Following the three week period, the number of seeds that germinated and the shoots mass were noted from each pot (Walsh and Walsh 2015). This process was conducted by cutting the end of the plant shoot and counting the number shoots which rose (Walsh and Walsh 2015). The shoots mass was noted by, compiling the shoots that were cut, using a digital weighting machine (Walsh and Walsh…

This experiment will evaluate duckweed and its ability to remove nutrients and toxins from water sources. Thus, duckweed will kill the organisms that require similar nutrients, yet aid the organisms that would otherwise die to toxins. Specifically, if one was to place Elodea plants in a tank with duckweed, then the Elodea will die due to the lack of nutrients from the duckweed having used the nutrients for its own benefits. Furthermore, if one were to place an organism such as Daphnia in a tank with Duckweed, then the duckweed would remove any toxins present in the water and provide a food source to the organism, thus sustaining the life of that organism.…

We initially thought that the duckweed with less population density would have the larger growth rate, we in fact saw the opposite. The duckweed with the highest population density. The mean growth rate of the high density duckweed was the highest of the three, while the medium density duckweed had the second highest mean growth rate. The lowest density duckweed had a very small mean growth rate. It was interesting, some of the thali grew at large rates while others barely grew.…

    Duckweed Experiment

The hypothesis was rejected in this experiment, based on the results. The results were much different than hypothesized before the experiment. It was hypothesized that the lower concentrations of CLR, Jar E and Jar D, would be healthier and more likely to reproduce than the higher concentrations of CLR, Jar B and C. However, as shown in the actual results, Jar E and D with the lower concentrations of CLR died quicker than Jar B and C. The CLR and water solutions acted as a fertilizer, so the greater the amount of CLR, the longer it stayed healthy or, in the case of Jar C, it even helps the duckweed fronds to reproduce. Ingredients in CLR, when mixed at a certain ratio with water, is actually helpful to the duckweed. There are many experimental…

Discussion The highest concentration had the highest population at the end of the experiment, while the lowest concentration had the lowest population at the end of the experiment. 10%, 15% and 20% had very close averages throughout the experiment. The last day had a big influence on all of the graphs. Most of the experiments either went high up or low down on the last day. When you compare the various concentrations of K PO to the control they all grew, many of them exponentially. Research from "Duckweed Summary" showed that Duckweed grows under most conditions. The best way we could make this experiment more accurate it would be to improve it by eliminating the possible sources of error. The possible sources of error are, miscounting, mistakes…

The problem in most of the circuits could have been linked to the 555 timer circuit that was being used as a square wave oscillator to provide a clock pulse. When used in stable mode, the 555 acts as a square wave oscillator whose clock rate is dependent on a time constant provided by two resistors and a capacitor. Many of the 555s weren’t providing a stable clock…
