Data Table
When working with reports and company information, data tables are great visual aids and very helpful. Data tables presents information in an organized format. A more detailed data table is more commonly used in order to be able to make a report effective. Kudler Fine Foods uses a basic data table to represent their Inventory Report. The design element is very basic with improvement being needed.
Design Elements:
When looking at Kudler Fine Foods’ Inventory Reports, the design elements are clearly noticeable. First one will notice that management uses General Ledger (GL) Codes to organize the report. The GL Code is made up of six numbers.

Management should add quantity sold, unit price per item, and ending inventory. By looking at just the dollar amount sold, one will not know if the sales amounts were high based on the quantity or based on the unit price per item. A more detailed report should be used to help management make decisions on inventory.
Pivot Table:
Pivot tables help management look at information in a different light. While looking at the Inventory Report provided, it is hard to compare the departments of each store. The below pivot table gives an example of how to compare the departments in a report. By reviewing the pivot table below, management can see which store is selling which department items better.

The basic Inventory Report it has now is not really effective. It is more of a Sales Data Report than an Inventory Report. By providing a more in-depth report, management will be able to see which items sale more, which items have a higher cost, and how much inventory the stores have on-hand still. The way the report is now, the inventory is unknown which makes purchasing impossible.

The current data tables can be improved by enabling users to more quickly determine trends and patterns. This can be accomplished through the use of a pivot table. This allows for specific data to be easily filtered from a chart or arranged by specific measurements like chronologically or even alphabetically. It does not give information in regards to the purchase price and the number of inventory in stock. Without more details decision will not be effective for Kudler Fine Foods.…
