Interpersonal communication is extremely common in my life. In order to have an effective communication, I should increase my understanding of self and other. For this aim, interpersonal communication course provides a great deal of communication concept to help me understanding myself and analyzing my communication behavior. Not only that, but also that I want to analyzing my parents’ communication behavior so as to enhance the efficacy of their communication.
On my daily communication, I find that I like using nonverbal communication to talk with other. I prefer using body communication to translate my meaning to my friends. For example, I like using emblem. Emblem is the nonverbal substitute for the verbal message. When people ask me to help them doing something, I will use the emblem of “ok” to show that I can help them. Otherwise, it can leave a good impression to the other by my body language. The S-O-F-T-E-N formula is some receptive body language in communication. By observing my communication behavior, I always use E and N formula –eye contact and nod. I will nod and maintain eye contact to tell people that I am listening and I understand what they said. The S-O-F-T-E-N formula is very useful for me. Leaving a good impression to the others is the indication of politeness and respect.
Apart from that, I discover that I am good at facial management. I neutralize my facial expressions so as to cover-up my emotions. For instance, my friend sent me a gift on my birthday party. It is a repugnant gift and I dislike it. However, I did not show my disappointed emotion in my face. I also smile to her and say thank you. I know that my friend prepare the gift for long time. If I show the disappointed emotion in my face, my friend will upset. Facial management techniques are a valuable tool. It can reduce the embarrassing atmosphere among people.
Before I learn this course, I am not active to have a conversation with a stranger, since I do not know how to

Communication style instantly changes even in family depending on the ages and relationships. For example if I am communicating with my parents or in-laws I needed to be more respectful and obedient. This communication style will apply with them in any situation. But communicating with my children requires directive, kind, caring and assertive. When it comes to my husband I am comfortable, free and at times intimates. I would define a vulnerable population like Mary de Chesnay states in her book “Vulnerable Populations: Vulnerable People, “Vulnerability is a general concept meaning “susceptibility,” and its specific connotation in terms of health care is “at risk for health problems” (De Chesnay & Anderson, 2008, 3). I would also add Aday’s (2001) definition to this, “Vulnerable populations are those at risk for poor physical, psychological, or social health (De Chesnay & Anderson, 2008, 3).…
