Jose Rodriguez Interview
“At first it was not easy, just like everything in life, nothing is easy,” Jorge Luis Rodriguez highlight in the interview. He owns big trucks that pick up, transport, and drop off packages and small shipments within the state of California. He began by talking about his early life as a garbage collector and how the backbreaking job led him to serious health problems that ended up with him in the hospital. Rodriguez informs how that incident helped him realize that it was time to take risks and strive for something better. To recover economically from the days he was unemployed, he began working …show more content…
My next question dealt with what is the most difficult part about managing employees. This question seemed to require more thought on his part than the previous ones. "I've never really thought about this since I see my employees more like peers than employees. It's simple really, make their importance to the company known, treat them fairly, and give them a good wage for the honest work they provide. Do this and you won't have any trouble at all."

He gently patted me on the back while he laughed and I thanked him for his time. I couldn't help but walk away from the interview with a smile. The positive outlook that Mr. Rodriguez had on his business was refreshing and just inspired me all the more to pursue my own business one day. I find it hard to disagree with his take on things and I believe his wisdom that he shared with me will be invaluable on my pursuit towards

Though my mind is still not made up on the subject of if I will go into journalism, I am now certain English is what I wish to major in. I will take note of what I learned from Mr. Miller and pursue my passion for writing. My preparation for this interview, for me (and hopefully for Mr. Miller), made it a much more relaxed environment. I did put a considerable amount of thought into what I would say and ask, nonetheless, I still remained incredibly nervous. Nevertheless, once we started talking, it became easier and I believe this assisted in obtaining the proper information I was searching for. The greatest lesson learned on the subject of interviewing was to, not only ensure I contact the interviewee the day before, but also to do more research on how to present questions. I also learned I should prepare a place sooner than I initially did for the interview. All in all, this assignment was an extraordinary lesson on…

Rodriguez faces a few tensions in his personal experience such as being a "scholarship boy" as oppose to a well rounded student and and his life at home compared to a more friendly home environment. Rodriguez says that "I was a very good student, I was a also a very bad student. I was a scholarship boy, a certain kind of scholarship boy. Always successful, I was always unconfident. Exhilarated by my progress. Sad. I became the prized student - anxious and eager to learn. Too eager, too anxious - an imitative and unoriginal pupil." ( Rodrigues #283 ) Rodriguez describes himself here as imitating his teachers too much and being a perfect student instead of thinking for himself and taking in the knowledge he is given by his teachers and analyzing it and putting it to use. He is unoriginal and and uninteresting compared to a student who can use their knowledge in their own way and gets more involved. The other tension Rodriguez faces his the tension he has with his family, mostly his mother and father. At home his mother and father both support and encourage what he is doing very much but they didn't like the fact that he would always be in his room and the fact that the only thing he was involved with was school. "He permits himself embarrassment at their lack of education." (Rodriguez #286) This quote shows that Rodriguez's amount of knowledge of the english language and other subjects he had compared to his parents and therefore he was somewhat embarrassed by them and it created a tough home environment to live in because he didn't communicate much with his parents. This contrasts the home environment where their is a strong relationship between the family and their is communication.…

As a child Rodriguez was the exception to the stereotypical student coming from a working class family. He was always top of his class, and rather than spending his time out with friends or with his family he spent his time with books and notes. Initially this approach makes Rodriguez stand out as an exceptional student, but as time goes on he becomes an outsider both at home and in school. “Achievement of Desire” chronicles the not-so-typical education of a young boy from a working class family.…
