John Smith And Pocahontas Essay
3.Since there was significant age difference between Pocahontas and Smith, Price concludes that they were not romantically involved. What, then, do you think motivated Pocahontas to save Smith’s life and later warn him of an impending attack from her own people? Why was she offended when Smith offered her beads and other gifts for her warnings?

4. Who was John Rolfe? Describe the doubts and desires he had when he first met Pocahontas. What were your impressions of wedding ceremonies and traditions in colonial Virginia?

Pocahontas admire John Smith's leadership qualities that rival her father, Chief Powhatan. She respects his abilities to hunt and fight, which attract the Powhatan girls' attention to his manly arts. He treated her with friendliness and kindness that make her feel warm. Maybe Pocahontas did have a small crush on John Smith or that she looked up to him. Another reason she could have done it out of compassion and solicitude for John Smith. “He was a strong leader of his people, as her father was of his, and he was capable in the masculine arts of hunting and fighting, which Powhatan girls were brought to admire. John Rolfe did have doubts about his feelings for Pocahontas, because he thought that falling for a native girl would make him a laughingstock. John Rolfe eventually fell for Pocahontas ‘s exotic beauty, intelligence and vitality. It got so bad that, John Rolfe couldn't stop thinking about her day and night. “That colonist was John Rolfe, one of the Sea Venture survivors. He was concerned that a romantic attachment to a native girl would render him a laughingstock… Rolfe’s doubts and fears never had much chance of prevailing.” (Price,

Pocahontas and John Smith both have the Standard American accents, despite John Smith being from Britain and Pocahontas being a Powhatan Native American woman. Pocahontas, the heroin of the classic Disney take of this historically depressing tale, is aesthetically pleasing to the eye like Jasmine, with beautified, striking features and long sleek hair that every young girl wishes they had. John Smith’s sharp features and blond hair beautify him as well and only enhance the stereotype that American accented people are more beautiful than non-American accented people. Ratcliffe, the evil, literal gold-digger who is in charge of the English expedition, has a thick British accent and his over-weight and…

Each individual person has an opinion. What they choose to believe in all depends on what they want themselves to think. We can all pretend we live in a nice happy place where there are no problems, such as to believe that the English settlers came in strictly for peace and strictly for that one reason alone, but life isn’t always how they portray it to be. Where are these happy endings where everyone is nice and if they were not, they were later regretful of their malicious actions. People are ruthless; instead of peaceful settlers setting out to explore a new world and try to learn about it’s mysterious ways with the help of natives, Pocahontas was in all reality captured by the English settlers and was forced to abide not only by their customs, but by their religious thoughts, and indigenous ways. After her unwanted adventure, she was “let” by the English settlers to have a second “opportunity” to go over to Europe, and explore a new world for her people and learn about the “right” ways to live…
