There are many people that were involved in the French and Indian war, from the common solder to the high kings that made all the decisions, one of these many people is Jeffery
Amherst. Out of the sea of people involved in this war he grabs attention. He might not be the first person one would think of when thinking of the war but he really had a huge part in the outcome. There will be many aspects of this important man that will be discussed; his personal life, his legacy and finally, his achievements in the seven year war.
Jeffrery Amherst was born, on the 29th of January 1717 in Sevenoaks, England, to
Jeffery and Elizabeth Amherst. He had five siblings including Admiral John and Lieutenant
General William Amherst. Amherst’s father was a prosperous barrister. His growing childhood was lively and noble. At 12 he became the page in the noble house of the Duke of Dorset the other nobel house in Sevenoaks. In 1735 at the age of 14 he entered the 1st Regiment Foot
Guards ranked as an ensign. On the 3rd of May 1753 Jeffery got married to Jane Dalyson. Sadly she died only ten years later in November 1763. Then four years later in 1767 he got remarried to
Elizabeth Cary. No children came out of either marriage leaving him no offspring. George III gave Amherst the rank of field marshal in 1796. Then the next year Jeffery Amherst dies at his estate in Kent County, England on August the 3rd. Amherst is then moved to his family's vault at
