Jayson Branch's Trait Theory
1. The leadership theory I’ve chosen to use as I conduct my evaluation is Trait Theory. In a nutshell this theory claims that each person is born with special traits. Some traits are suited for leadership roles and others aren’t. When a person with several special traits rises into a leadership role, those traits make that person a great leader. Strengths also come into play here. Our textbook defines strengths as “natural talents and abilities that have been supported and reinforced with learned knowledge and skills and provide each individual with his or her best tools for accomplishment and satisfaction.” (Daft, 2013)
a. The first strength that Jayson Branch has that makes him a good leader is that he is very conceptually skilled. Jayson is able to see a situation and view a plan of action that enables him to create a step by step plan to achieve success. He is very knowledgeable in the industry that he works in and is able to explain himself in a manner that allows others to see this plan of success as well. An example of this trait was when I began working in his department. He brought me into his office to describe a specific way we perform a budgeting method. He explained things in a way using common examples that I was familiar with. By the end of that short meeting I completely

Jayson is also very tolerant of stress. In his role, much is demanded of him and often times he is expected to do more than he is capable. Rather than shut down and let the weight of his expectations over take him, he is able to prioritize and delegate. Every year we have to create an updated budget for the whole company for the upcoming year. This is a very long and tedious job, but Jayson is able to see the task at hand and break it up into smaller achievable goals.
