Issues Surrounding Abortion

Abortion has been a hot and controversial topic for years now. Everyone seems to have a strong opinion regarding abortion these days. Still, endless debates on the topic usually get nowhere, leaving some people even more committed to their positions and others confused. Women face so much hardship from society so, they need all the support that they can get. For instance, they have to wait for long periods of times before an abortion can be performed, they have to deal with long counseling sessions, minors need parental consent, and there is limited public funding for those who cannot afford a procedure. Sometimes when women face certain situations they end up with no choice other than to abort. The main issues with abortion in society today
Not funding abortion will not keep women from getting one. They will find whatever way and do whatever it takes to get it done. Most people see funding abortion promotes murder and is morally wrong. Religious individuals, not only believe that it is morally wrong but also it is against the church. There should be some kind of funding because abortions will happen whether there is funding or not. Society should help patients who need an abortion because, with help and support, women will have fewer illegal abortions which can also save lives. According to the World Health Organization statistics, about 21.6 million women undergo unsafe abortions worldwide each year and 18.5 million of these procedures occur in underdeveloped countries; 47,000 women die each year from the complications that come with an unsafe abortion (“Preventing Unsafe Abortion,” 2011). If there is no funding for abortion then it will be done in an unsafe manner and can cause more damage. Unsafe abortion can also cause an unwanted birth. The consequences of an unwanted birth are severe because they usually end up in the desertion of a child. Abandoned children usually become a problem to society. Problematic kids usually turn to crime in order to find a way to survive. A decision needs to be made about whether or not to fund abortion because sooner or later it will become a bigger problem in society. Society must
On May 24, 1999, congress passed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and it is the most recent national abortion bill passed. This bill ban abortions between 20 weeks and birth of the child, except when the mother’s life is in danger. There cannot be any other valid reason for partial-birth abortion except if the mother’s life is in peril. There are too many partial-birth abortions taking place and therefore the public needed this act to put a stop to this. On the other hand, pro-choice advocates say that just because the bill is not enforced strictly enough, that does not mean that it should be completely terminated. The bill was made to protect mothers and not to kill live children. This act has created great controversy between both respective sides of the argument. The abuse of this law has also put a lot of pressure on the enforcers to pursue strict regulations. The only way that I can support the issue of partial-birth abortion is if the mother is endangered.
