SQC is an essential process, as it ensures that an equipment is working well and that it is at optimum performance.
Other than SQC, equipment calibration is done at regular periods of time in order to ensure that the equipment is able to give the correct and accurate range of values; for example, mass balance calibration is done every day, using a standard mass of exactly 200g. If an equipment is found to be faulty and servicing is to be done, calibration is done by using SQC standards, to allow for the equipment to be able to measure accurately the required parameters.
Some of the methods of testing requires a period of training to ensure competency, for example, D5185, which tests for the concentration of various metals such as calcium and zinc via Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP) within an oil sample, and D892, which tests for the foam characteristics of a

The data gathered and calculated in the experiment accurately portrayed the way the reactions would have taken place. The chloride analysis was a little bit off from other groups due to the fact that our AgCl was in clumps, creating less surface area, thus our product took longer to burn and may not have burned correctly compared to other groups; yet there are several experimental factors that could have caused us to have different results than other groups, i.e. different measurements for samples. Our sources of error could have included eye measurement error, timing of set solutions error, measurement errors, and small calculation errors. Among other variables, the calibration of the analytical balance and spectrophotometer could have been off slightly, yet our results, like most other groups, still followed the general trend line generated by the graph using Beer’s Law. The measurement errors could have occurred due to the fact that one partner’s perspective of a measurement could be different than the others, but the lab cannot be preformed solo. When it comes to improving the lab, there aren’t to many ways to ensure accurate measurements due to the fact that in any experiment there are human and environment variables that cannot be accounted for, or even prepared for. In any experiment there will always be human error.…

After performing each lab I have a much better understanding on what is expected and how to carry our future labs. I learned measuring techniques and although there is much room for improvement on my part, I think I have a good sense of what to expect and how to appropriately calculate my experimentations. The lab that I struggled with the most was the one represented in Table 9. I found the calculation of molarity to be a little confusing. I had a hard time producing results on this particular lab. I continued to redo it in attempt to get the correct calculations. I hope that I can take with me into future lab assignments the tools and know how to produce successful labs and results.…
