My parents had 4 young kids so my dad would always tell use these crazy story’s about how he killed the deer. Looking back I now see some of the details were extremely exaggerated but I thought to myself, I wanted to have story’s like that to tell my kids one day when I grow up. I have been rifle hunting for 8 years now. During this time I keep thing to myself this is too easy, the deer don’t stand a chance. I always knew bow hunting was an option but never had the motivation to take the online certification class that is until a good friend of mine said he was going to bow hunt. I couldn’t let him be able to shoot more deer then me so I got my bow hunting certification and started hunting. To start off bow hunting you need a bow. There are three different types of bows. The first is practice. This is how everything is in the world, if Tiger Woods never touched he’s clubs during the winter and then went to a tournament, he wouldn’t do very well. Lucky for us bow hunters hunting season is during the winter so we have plenty of time to practice well its worm out. Also when practicing use your broad heeds they could change the way your arrows fly. I have not practiced enough one could say. This season I have missed 5 time on great bucks. Try taking shoots from different firing passions. If you plan to hunt out of a ground blind, practice siting down well shooting. The same goes for tree stands, set up your stand in your yard and try shooing out of it. Shooing downwards changes the way your arrow will fly. Well you are out scouting bring you bow and try shooing at stumps well you are walking around, it will not only help your shooting but your ability to tell

To train your horse to do huntseat you should start by teaching your horse to hold its head up by itself without the rider having to hold the horse's head for them. You want your huntseat horse to be able to hold their head by themselves. You won’t have as much loose rein as you would in western, but the more rein you have the judge will like more. You want your Huntseat horse to be very up hill. Some of that comes through blood lines, but a lot of it comes with training your horse when they are young and having your horse in shape so they can ride up hill. You really want your hunter horse to be steady. That is the first thing that the judges would look at your horse. One thing that you will want for your hunter is a soft mouth. You don’t want to be using a harsh bit in the ring. You would want to use just plain snaffle, if your horse was trained with that type of bit. Huntseat is supposed to look more smooth and natural looking. The judges are looking for you to look very smooth and you and your horse move together. That is very hard for a lot of riders to do, you cannot really train your horse to be smooth. It has a lot to do with bloodlines, and…

When it comes to deer hunting a huge factor in success or failure is the land being hunted on. You could drive around and knock on doors of farmhouses to ask permission to hunt the land, but other possibilities would be to enter into a deer hunting lease through an outfitter or deer hunt club. Just imagine that in the states of Iowa, Kansas and Missouri alone, more than 200,000 acres of private land are available for deer hunting so gaining access to this land would increase the possibility of getting a trophy deer. Today, many landowners are creating an opportunity for deer hunters to use their land without the need to knock on doors to get permission.…

Not only is hunting an exhilarating experience but so is the feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. During winter times since I was 12 years old, my father would take me out on long drives in the middle of winter to hunting sites just outside of Edmonton. What made the drive not seem so long was the scenic route we would always take. Every once in a while I would see little white rabbits hopping around and leaving miniature footprints all in the snow next to the road. Further down the road we would pass a fairly big hill that had two pine trees at the top of it. I always wondered how long they had been there considering the fact that they were over thirty feet high. Finally we would get to the hunting ground and make are way down to a little patch of brush where we would crouch and wait for the deer to pass by. The feeling of the cold snow crunching under my boots, the frost covered branches of the bush we were nestled under, and all the little footprints that surrounded us gave me a feeling of unity with nature. After hiding in our spots for a long while, usually until my feet and toes were completely frozen it seemed, my father would whisper “Here comes one right now”. A few moments later I’d hear a loud bang and we’d be back on the road with our trophy and bragging rights. We have carried on this tradition every…
