In this paper, I am going to describe each specialized personnel that will be needed at the scene of a crime or mass disaster. I will inform you of what duties each of these specialized individuals will possess. You will be able to know and understand each of these responsibilities. At midnight on January 1 a call comes in of multiple gunshots fired at 123 ABC Blvd. Officer Black responds to the call and is the first on the scene. Upon his arrival Officer Black notices a white male lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshots. He notated that the shell casings were of .38 caliber and 9mm. Officer Black secures the crime scene and radios for backup. Officer Black then gets the name and statements from the personnel that were present when he arrived at the crime scene. Officer Black then checks the house in a calm and deliberate manner to see if there are any injured personnel that need medical attention. Officer Black is careful not to touch anything in his process of clearing the house. Officer Black is known as the first responder. Upon arrival of the investigating officers, Officer Black is to report all information that he has learned and observed while present at the crime scene. Specialized personnel assigned to a crime scene duties must cooperate closely with the detectives in charge.
First responders are responsible for a lot more than you actually think. Without the first responder you really do not know where to begin. The first responder must ensure that all the following is completed before the investigation team arrives. •Write down names of witnesses and other persons who entered the scene. •Note who was at the crime scene when the officer arrived. •Establish the basic facts.
•Keep the suspect and witnesses separated whenever possible. •Instruct witnesses not to discuss the events.
•Do not discuss the crime with witnesses...
