I Have A Dream Speech: Martin Luther King Jr.
Washington DC has many historical events and is known for them. For example, on January 8, 1867, Congress Gave black men the right to vote in local elections. also on December 24, 1973, Congress agreed to make the District of Columbia a self-Government and Governmental Reorganization Act, but this essay is not going to be about any of this, it is going to be about what I believe is one of the most significant events that changed history. Martin Luther King Jr. choose Washington D.C. for his famous speech “ I Have a Dream.” Dr.King was on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when he delivered his speech. The I have a dream speech was given on march in Washington for freedom and jobs native Americans, resonated from above the National Mall to the far-reaching corners of the Deep South and across the country, solidifying King as an indelible force to be reckoned for civil rights movement. The reason this speech was given was that people of color blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc, were separated from things in many ways, both overt and covert.
People of color were treated very differently than white people, African Americans had no rights, African Americans were treated like trash. They were called the N-word and other vulgar words. people of color used to be judged by the color of their skin and not by their personality. Black people had to go to different school, live on the opposite side of the city, go to different churches, drink from a different restroom and
